If you're making $1000 per design, I'd roll with it to build up your portfolio with some hot sellers. But the key would be to keep track of how the design does out on the market. Once you get a couple under your belt you should have enough leverage to take a percentage of sales... but I mean $1000 is a pretty nice comission <sp?> in and of itself.
Say the company is clearing $10 per shirt as profit and you can negotiate a 10% royalty (which is the high end of the industry standard per Yahoo), you'd have to wait till they sold 1000 shirts before you make what you're making now... and who wants to wait that long?
Unless these guys are moving that kind of volume like its nobody's business, I think that you're doing pretty well for yourself.
