The sun is not the problem, it's the adhesive. It's just meant to grip certain things, if the right conditions don't exist it will just fall off.

I know that 3M sells a vinyl for digital printing that will adhere to just about anything (including a brick wall) by use of a heat gun, but it's not going to available in reflective colours. Forgot what it's called.

If you're serious about this I would call your vinyl supplier and ask them to send you some samples, test them out on the wood for a month or two and see what happens.
