Default Difference between perforated & non-perforated vinyl?

Hi, when a roll of vinyl (for decal making) is described as being perforated or non-perforated, what is it referring to? I know what perforated means, but where exactly is it perforated - just on the side edges, or is the roll divided into perforated sections?

I'm thinking maybe some plotters come with little pegs (not sure what to call them) where the sides get interested on to. My machine does not have that, but if the perforation is only on the sides, then it will work. If on the sides, would you say it's about 1/2 an inch wide?

Thanks.
