I didn't know much about domain names, and someone recommended godaddy.com, which is the site I was using... At one point they wanted $8,000.00 (yes, eight thousand dollars!) for a name I really liked. I believe for that particular name, I actually checked the box where you have the option of choosing .com, .net, .org first, then I typed in the name... It was almost like the site realized that I wasn't just browsing, but actually wanted to make an immediate purchase! I was very disappointed...
Other times, "my names" were offered to me as an auction, starting at $200.00!
I later tried another search, and it did the same thing but wasn't nearly as aggressive as godaddy (can't remember the name, but it may have been register.com). I guess I learned the hard way... I suppose I will just wait and see if the site eventually gives up. Have no idea how long this will take, hopefully just a couple/few weeks as Bobbie explained.
