Although there's something to be said about making your own equipment, if you can and if you're handy. Directions for print presses and vacuum dryers for example are out there and I've had great results.
As previously mentioned it takes a while until you're "rolling in dough" so it def. helps to cut costs with a D.I.Y. attitude.
