I tried to stay away from inkjet printer (clogging issue) so I cannot comment about it. On the other hand I use Imageclip with my laser printer and I get really good and durable print with Okidata/Imageclip combination. I can not speak for other transfer paper since I only tried a few sample of different brands. It is not fair to those products if I made my judgement base on one or two sample prints. IMHO laser printed transfer holds up on its own when it comes to durability. It's advantage over inkjet is no clogging issue of course. I have printed a shirt from day one when I started using imageclip and it has been washed 16 times to date. The printed image looks the same as the day it was pressed. Very little fade.

So to answer your question good wash fastness can not be attributed to just printer toner, it takes the combination of the transfer paper and laser toner.
