Hmm, interesting question. I really don't know - someone here might.

It's highly likely to be fine, but I don't know. In general architecture can be legally photographed. However some buildings likeness' are protected by trademark (the Empire State Building is one such building). So it's possible someone has a trademark on the Hollywood sign, I have no idea. I think that kind of thing is rare, but I guess if any sign were to have a trademark it would be that one.
