Default I need experience, looking into contacting local screen printer for help

Wasn't exactly sure where to put this...but I figured this thread would be suffice, if not, please move it for me.

Here is the situation:

I'm 15, i've been screen printing for about a year now, but I've never worked with anybody else. My work is OK, but I really need some guidance. I don't want to go to any classes..cause, well, That costs money. I was wondering if any of you guys think that a local screen-printer would be willing to let me hang around their workshop every now and then to learn a couple things. I'm willing to help (without pay of course) with cleaning or coating screens or things like that, I just don't know how anyone would react to that kind of question.

Has anyone here ever let younger people that really want to learn about the subject help out a little? Or is that just odd?

any help is appreciated.
