I have been informed that I now officially have a booth at the Magic Fashion Tradeshow in Las Vegas. It's only a few weeks away and now I realize I'm going up against the "big boys". This is my first tradeshow/fashion show....IM KINDA FREAKED OUT. Over the past 4 years I've sold my clothing brand at various festivals and events. I've set up my own booth, setup grids, and created my own outdoor store, but I don't know what to expect or how to go about doing things at Magic.
This post: ANYBODY that can offer advice on Magic, people who have been there, seen it, setup shop, talked with vendors, etc...anybody that can offer advice and comment on the experience and how to get the most out of it - that's what I'm hoping for in this post. I have an idea of what to expect, but the more info any of you good forum members can provide would be soooooo helpful in helping me prepare.
I have the "studio" package, cost: $5500...yeah...so I'd like to get the most out of this as I can. Thanks in advance.
I've never been to Magic so I can't give you any concrete experienced advice but since no one else has responded I'll mention some things I've learned from working trade shows in other fields.
Have a nice display package of your brand/logo to hang and decorate with, I'm sure you already do if you've been doing other shows and have had an outdoor booth.
Figure out a nice hook for your theme that you can use to help you draw in a crowd and show vendors that you mean business, I'd suggest a draw or contest, some helper monkeys to hand out freebies, etc.
Don't be dissuaded if buyers aren't doing orders, in most cases buyers just take notes and investigate you more on their own time and make orders once they've narrowed down their lists so just be friendly, give as much information as possible and be confident!

Have you read the tips about attending the Magic show that have already been posted here?
There's some great information in past threads (I looked under the magic search tag):

Go all out! Most booths there are really nicely done. Afterall, you are also competing against celebrity brands (usually upstairs) and streetwear brands (downstairs). If you are showing at Marketplace?
Anyway, try youtubing MAGIC FASHION VEGAS and you'll find some videos to get an idea of what it's like. Magic is only a couple weeks away!!!!
And hopefully you have lots of shirts/clothing to show because these other guys bring it to the max! Some booths have at least 100 samples, some smaller ones have about 30-50 samples.
So maybe some of you could give me some tips on this show. I am interested in private label organic/cotton spandex mix fitness/actiove wear. I'm going to visit sourcing. Is there a good selection of fitness wear for private label?
And where would that be located?
People have asked me previously if I was going and I didn't really know what it was. I checked out their website and still really have no idea who the target of the show is.
Is this show for brands (clothing lines)? For retail buyers? For apparel manufacturers? For garment decorators?
As a brand (without a booth) am I able to attend, and what would be the benefits?
I Was at Magic Yesterday and was blown away it was amazing!
I want to exhibit at the February show but i they asked for things like: Cads of my line, Store distribution but we are brand new we don't have those things yet. We will have are line ready in about a month but store distribution i won't have. Thats why i want to go to magic to get store distribution.
Do i have to have store distribution to get a Boothe in the SLATE section?
Also any other trade shows any one knows of thats simliar to the slate show at magic?
I just returned home from Vegas. I live in NY. I attended the show. It was my first time. I thought it was cool.
Went with my significant other and he seemed a bit bored. I could have really enjoyed it if a friend was with me.
I was a little dissapointed with the selection of Active and Eco wear. And forget sourcing. There is a barrier with communication. Was speaking with both Thaiwan, China and Pakistan. Pakistan was very easy to communicate with but they only dealt with massive units.
I did however meet a very nice manufacturing company/broker in person. I sat with him and his lovely wife for quite some time discussing my line and production.
The name of the company is Intercontex. They are based out of LA California. Alfredo Malatesta is the man to speak with.
So for those who went, what ya think? It was HOT
Where did ya stay? I stayed at the Bellagio. I wish I had more time to sight see
