Discuss the process of getting your t-shirt line into brick and mortar stores and selling offline. Topics include industry tradeshows, events, line sheets, sales reps and other retailing tips and advice.
Hi everyone,
I started a clothing brand last year.
I've gotten a few emails recently from online retail stores offering to carry my line. The past few days I got emails from MYME and Crisp22. They are two new startups in the works.
Both say they want to carry my line and take 30% of the sales. Has anyone gotten offers like this? Getting emails like these out of blue makes me hesitant. Am I getting scammed? How have/would you take this?
Thanks for your help.
I appologize if this is the wrong category.

I've not heard of too many scams of this nature, but I'm not sure about the 30% rule. If someone carries your clothing, they still purchase the shirts at a wholesale price. If that wholesale price is 30% off the retail, then that's fine, but to sell then make 30% without stock gives them little incentive to move product. If they have inventory, that's direct incentive and they can get motivated.
I would simply check with the BBB on their particular company's and/or names, addresses, phone numbers, emails or anything of that nature. Your shirts are tied in with a good cause, so it's possible that they are being well received and drawing a lot of interest.

I think online retail stores like Karmaloop work in this fashion.

The "carry your line" scam emails that I've seen are more generic. They don't mention pricing or percentage at all. Here's one generic email that I've received in the past that I would consider a scam:

I'd research the heck out of the companies and the offer and ask them lots of questions
