Default UPC's a must for Atlanta Gift Market?

The Gift Market in and of itself is costing us a bunch of money... I don't want to throw it down the drain. I'm trying to be ultra-prepared...

We'll only have 6-8 designs in 5 sizes each for adults -- not for sure yet how many for kids, gut I guess 4-5 or whatever my screenprinter recommends (she has TONS of experience with retail).

I know I'm going to have to sign up for the UPC registry -- the "only" official one. And I think my membership is around $780.

I'm trying to decide if I need to do that NOW or if I can just get hang tags done that have a blank space where we can put stickers later when we decide to get in deeper.

What do you recommend? I don't think our product will appeal to many bigbox retailers -- although there are a few (outdoorsy types) that we're interested in for the future if not now...

Thanks again for all the advice. I may drive you nuts over the next week or two as we get down to the wire.

-K

Default Re: UPC's a must for Atlanta Gift Market?

Smaller retailers tend to have their own systems, so they don't need the UPC (just the space to put their sticker). The UPC registry is frustratingly expensive; if you can put it off (and it sounds like you can) then that does make sense.
