ISS NBM... what are the different types of shows out there and what do the acronyms mean? hehe
i'm new to all this show stuff, and am looking to see if there were any places to find tradeshows to attend and how to get into them. i'm sure theres threads about this and apologize if there are but i was browsing the faq and stuff and didn't see anything.
ISS is the Imprinted Sportswear Shows. They are affiliated with Impressions Magazine. NBM is National Business Media, I believe they have some connection to Printwear Magazine.
The only experience I have had is with the ISS shows and that's as a vendor, so I'll leave it to someone else to say whether or not those shows are helpful from an embroidery or screen print standpoint.

The other show to be aware of in the US is the biggest show for our industry typically, and that is SGIA. It is in Atlanta this year October 15th to the 18th.
Yazakisan - What are you looking for at the show? These three shows above are market places for vendors to showcase their goods that can help the garment decorator. You can come see equipment of all types, different blank imprintable manufactures and lots of thing in between.

i guess what i'm looking for are different shows we can do to, to see what other people are doing, as well as network with retailers to try to get our brand out there.

Sounds like you're looking for "fashion" tradeshows. These are different than the shows like NBM/ISS/SGIA. Those shows (NBM/ISS, etc) are for people who are doing printing, or people who want to learn more about the printing processes or see different printing/supply vendors.
The fashion tradeshows are where clothing lines show off their designs and retail buyers visit to find new product for their stores.
I haven't had any luck finding any type of trade shows here in the Seattle area related to apparel design, printing etc. We have gem shows, jewelry shows, gift shows, RV shows, but alas I see no local apparel embellishing type shows in the area. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I am interested in going to either the Magic show in August or the SGIA show in October. As a designer/printer which would be more beneficial for meeting contacts to offer my specialty printing services? I want to go to the fashion show to see what the trends are in the fashion industry, and one of my customers is an exhibitor. I also want to go to the print industry show to see new products coming out on the production end, even though it will be awhile before I will invest in new equipment. I want to go to learn as well as generate business, but I don't think I can shut down shop to go to both of them. For those who have been, which would you recommend? Thanks

The fashion shows like Magic/ASR/Agenda would probably be better for that. The industry shows like SGIA, ISS are all filled with printers who do the same thing you do
What are the major differences between ISS and SGIA tradeshows?
I've never been to an SGIA tradeshow, so I couldn't tell you. They are sort of in the same category (industry show) and Magic/Agenda/ASR are in another category (fashion tradeshow)
