setting a tent beside the road and selling their tee shirts there?
Has anyone thought of setting a tent beside the road and selling their tee shirts there. Of course, you would need permission if you are setting up on someone else' property or in business' parking lot. But is this possible and how would it affect your clothing reputation?

Yes, it's possible with the right permits and permission.
How it effects your clothing line's reputation depends on your clothing line. For a streetwear brand, it might help. For an upscale line like Ed Hardy, it might hurt it.

ok the dope....
pay owner or manager 10% of gross, some times they want a set day amount never pay more than $30 a day on set fee. some times i offer $20 or 10% what ever is bigger.
on a good day i will do $500 on an average day i do $200 if i do less than $100 a day i don't do that location again...
What sells.... lots of stuff
every thing is made on site except the samples and a lot of the samples are made while i am not doing anything sometimes people buy the samples and thats good (keeps the samples looking good) i offer stickers, printed and cut vinyl, bumper stickers, signs, auto magnetics, small banners, yard signs(reailestate signs)buttons, and when some one wants to know if i can letter the frount of ther store or do auto lettering i say yes i would be happy to come to there location set up and do the job on site.there is good money in the autos and store signs.

also
i am considering adding tshirts to the mik but power could be a problem as part of the deal is power some times up to 200ft of cord. i bought a press at the nbm show in charlet and i am working on getting do t's down. as to where do the customers come from it's boath stoppers as i call them and the folks whom stopped for the store. a lot of times people wil stop for the store because i am there. thats a selling point when aranging for a place to park for 3 days.

Thanks for the information! I plan on getting me a tent and finding some hot spots very soon. I think that this will be something good to do during the summer since I teach the rest of the year.
Re: setting a tent beside the road and selling their tee shirts there?
i am glad i have inspired.... Remember if you have a bad day at a location (only Make $10 ) don't give up find another location. the place in the photo was kinda off the trail and the first day i only did $60 i was think the next day would blow also but starting at 9am till my last customer at 6 when i needed to start packing up i did not stop working just over $400. i only did 2 days because of some personal honey doo stuff i had to do today but you never know. on guy ordered $70 worth of stickers and came back in a few hours.
Also i signed up for propay to take credit cards and all i can say is WOW, i took about $60 in charges and thats sales that i would not have had if i did not take cards, this is the first time in 10 years that i am taking cards i do have a $20 minimum. it was easy as they say it was... if i run in to problims ill post..
GOOD LUCK to those going out to do this...
i will be at a 6 day setup next week in maggievallie nc at a Exxon station there is a big motorcycle rallie in the town so i figured i should be there for the show not looking forward to 6 days but cant pass up the income potential. I CAN NOT SPELL BETTER THAN A FIFTH GRADER.....

Really cool Don, hope you post an update as to how the motorcycle event went. I have often thought about doing our own line and doing events with it, but it's hard as our daily business keeps us pretty busy.
Thanks,
Dave

Re: setting a tent beside the road and selling their tee shirts there?
ill pop a few photos and post so u-all can see the setup, i will be starting the next setup with a sale as a customer that bought some stickers at the sunoco setup called and wants 25 more he will come to the motercycle show to get them. I hand out a lot of cards when i am set up and people don't mind calling me to get something because they feel like they know me, these people that call never buy from the internet most people that take a card ask if they can call because they dont want to buy on the internet. the questions are where will you be next. can i call and find where you are set up and come git stuff, and most dont do it but some do and that makes it worth the effort to give a card. i decided to start hand writing a recipet when some one wants one on the back of my biz card and that has worked. i am going to have the back of the card set up for a recipet the next time i print cards. its really quick instead of printing a recipet....Don
