setting a tent beside the road and selling their tee shirts there?
Re: setting a tent beside the road and selling their tee shirts there?
You would think after 10 years of building tents I would do it rite but I cheeped out and cut some corners and dang I knew it was gonna leak on the sides if I did not do the second rail to attach the top to! I also knew that it was not going to rain when I was set up. So those of you going to make your own tent don’t do as I do, do as I say… pm me for tent building instructions….. ( now I got to do it the rite way or maybe I could…….) some of you might notice the hand brooms, That’s my therapy I tie brooms for the fun of it NOW at one time I did it for income… any ways a few up for sale always help start a conversation…. I got a neighbor today in the vacant gas station …. Humm….
I wont make average sales this week unless I include a job I did Monday hummmm…..
There is a big street fair going on in Asheville, at least I did not pay the big bucks to be set up there in the rain…..

mmmmm.... rrrrr... i spend 2 nights in the 3 day setup.. 3 days is all i can take camping... its only the sides leaking and i can fix that next week. but i was sure it would not rain while i was set up!!!!

Don
I hate to tell you this but it ALWAYS rains during Belle Cher weekend. I've been here 15 years and I believe it has rained 14 of those on this weekend.
It was good talking to you yesterday, you have some good ideas for a travelling business.

terry thanks for stopping by it was good to talk with you...
Now comes the test…. I fixed the tent and am set up for the next 3 days…. So its raining, I kinda new it would. however I got a bad feeling about this spot, I think I will be lucky to do a couple of hundred. My gut was saying that its not the kind of spot that people will stop at its not really in the outskirts of the town and its not in the next little town outskirts its kinda in the middle of towns. I keep reminding my self it only takes a couple of good customers and the 3 days turns out good.
The lesson though for those heading out to try this is you need several shops kinda close so people can add you to there shopping ( ewoo look a cool new thing to look and shop at lets go over there and look) I think the other factor is it’s the empty highway from town 1 to town 2 no one expected to see some place to get signs and they need to get where they are going, they are not just out and about no time to stop.
GOOD NEWS I just saved a bunch of money on insurance… no wait that was some other conversation the good news is no leaks….. Those of you building a tent do as I say not as I did.. I think I said that but ill still say it again. Be sure the sides of the top lap over the side bars… for moor info PM me and I splain you luci…

Re: setting a tent beside the road and selling their tee shirts there?
Update… heading out to set up tomorrow at a place I was 3 weeks ago
That makes a second time location set up and I hope the people that did not stop when I was there the first time Will stop when they see me this time… ILL let you know
I was correct about my last location and only made a few hundred. I left the spot the second night, temps were to high and mood to low to suffer another day. I did not set up last week as it was to hot to think about being in a tent for 3 days so I took the week off
I did manage to get a few jobs in the door from people whom picked up a card.
It seams that the 3 day adventures work for getting customers … it’s a good way to advertise… something some of you might want to consider as a advertising option….
I have decided to go to COVERED BRIDGE in Indiana in October. I found a buddy that will go with me so I am teaching him the basics over the next couple of weeks.
I will start a NEW POST when we get there.. I don’t think there will be a internet signal as there has not bin one in the past so it may be a after the fact post. This will be my 4th time to go over a 8 year time span.
Ill post later in the week about how things go this week.

Re: setting a tent beside the road and selling their tee shirts there?
Thanks for all the great info. I will be going back to the country next year and cant wait to hit up a few locals.
I would love a list of supplies I should have also, how do you do printed decals? I have a Copam and will be doing regular vinyl decals but would like to print the bumper stickers and removable (cling type) decals if possible.
Thanks! Now off to price tents - lol
