Default Breaking the ice

I was wondering how i should go about trying to get my line in a clothing store. And if i would get in, would i need to have a TM and/or LLC/Corporation. These two things are still in the process for my company. But I have a product that I know will sell, should i just market it as best i can to the Shop owner?

Also, are there any specifics that I should include when contacting the shop owner, mind you that the store itself is a very high end retailer that sells hard to find clothes etc.

Hi Ryan!

There's a guy here in Australia that started the Attitude brand. Apparently for a few weeks he got all of his friends to ring up the shops he wanted to be in, and ask them if they stocked Attitude gear. Obviously they didn't at that stage, but each time a new friend called, the shop owners began to think, "Wow, this is a really popular brand!"

Eventually, he would call up himself and say that was the owner of the Attitude brand. Then he'd ask if they would like to sell his stuff. Of course, they were more than happy to!

This guy ended up building the brand and eventually sold it for $5 million or something crazy.

You may or may not like to try that...

Many store owners will allow you to sell your t-shirts on consignment. This is probably the easiest way to get in, as it is no risk for them. Make sure that you get their commission arrangement in writing (they'll generally take 50% of the sale and give the rest to you.)

All the best!

Send e-mails introducing your company, then follow up with a call and then either a sample package or information packet. Or you can go in with your line and try and show it to them Another option is to try and get sales reps with a showroom or even a travelling sales rep. They already have a customer base and can show your lines - it's not easy to find them, but if you do it might pay off. Lots of luck!

Well I have a sales rep from Macy's in new york. And she's the headbuyer of the young mens department. Should i set up a in depth chart or something, for her to send out?

Or what should I have ready for her

Is she the buyer for Macy's or does she rep lines to Macy's? Well, either way - prepare a packet with a sample, a line sheet - if you have one and a wholesale price sheet. Any other information regarding your t-shirts, designs, company is also a good idea. It's a good lead - you should definately start there and see what happens. Do keep in mind that if you do sell tp Dept. stores they have terms that you must follow if not they have charge backs - so you need to be real careful. They also don't pay right away - they usually do like 120 days or something. I would first try to get in and see if you can work things out - you really never know! Lots of luc and feel free to ask any questions.
