I'm in quick need of your help/ideas. I need ideas for taking credit card transactions at the event.
Here are my issues:
1) there's no power that will be provided to our booth to run a wireless credit card machine.
2) wireless credit card machines are very expensive. Is there any other low budge means I can use for this first show?
We're working our first festival/tradeshow this up coming Saturday. Everything else seems to be falling into place but this. I currently work in the convention/tradeshow business and 80%+ of our transactions are all through credit card. I'm concerned to go to an event and not be able to process credit card transactions.
or...get one of the old fashined ones that you stick the card in and a paper receipt and the arm slides over it and makes an impression? you know.....the only kind we had back in the stone ages before internet connections no power required

Yep as above! (You can always phone through for authorisation)
It would pay to check your current merchant agreement in relation to this too, some institutions now charge for this "privilege" when being used in the manner you describe. (The swipe machines may ONLY be for use during a blackout etc under your current merchant agreement)
Personally when we had a baby shop we did the swipe at the markets and then manually entered the sale in our eftpos machine because the bank also charged a higher fee to process paper credit card transactions. (We had authorisation for non present card sales so no probs)
