I've never been to these shows before because I am new to the industry and just starting out. Is this a good place to buy the equipment? Do the vendors give special show discounts? Also, I saw that the show says children under 12 are not allowed. Does anyone know if they enforce that rule?

don't plan on seeing a lot of equipment for sale. Some of the vendors will sell the display items at a bit of a discount. Is the show worth going to...you betcha! especially if you are new to the biz. It will give you an insight on what this going on and can learn a lot. About the kids...do they enforce it...They sure do..at all shows that I have gone to. Consider...most of us love our kids...kids in general, but I for one and I suspect the vendors, don't want kids underfoot, creating distractions etc. I know some kids are very well behaved but..... JMO
NBM has a babysitting service called Kids Corp (or something similar) at the convention center where you can have a place for your kids to be safe while you are on the trade show floor. The reason for the rule is that there are equipment on the show floor that kids can get hurt by (embroidery machines, auto screen presses, heat presses,...) - it is a liability issue. It is really hard for exhibitors to talk to everyone, let alone make sure that kids will not hurt themselves. Thus the reason for the rule.
In the past, most of the shows required the child to be 16 years old. Don't know many 12 year olds that have an I.D. to prove their age though. My only recommendation is to make sure that you keep an eye on the child at all times. For us, trade shows can be very exciting and fun. But for a 12-year old, it can be really boring. Just want all the kids to be safe. Some things to consider.
