Default bulk buying - selling to retail stores - how do I setup pricing?

What up people?

I'm in England and I've just got my first batch of Tees and hoods from my supplier. I'm planning on hitting the shops to get shop owners to buy some.

1.How do I calculate a bulk buying chart or formula

2. What a shop owners common tricks to look out for?

3. On what basis do they usually buy. Out right, buy and return or any others, and which is best?

4. What tricks can I pull out of the bag?

Andy

Are you planning on selling wholesale then? You would obviously have to determine a reasonable price that you can make on each item that is worth it, both to you, and to the retailer once they place the appropriate markup on it. As far as the bulk buying, you would want to give the retailer an incentive to order more product, through lower cost structures, that is the nature of the beast.

I really don't know for sure how you would best set up the structure, and I hope someone else here will pitch in because this is an area of weakness for me as well, But I will issue this forewarning: For a young startup, the chance of most retailers ordering exorbinant amounts of stock is slim, especially when they have not yet seen the power your line has. They will have to try it out first, and see what happens.

But keep at it, and stay positive, and it will go your way in time.

(4.) What do you mean by tricks, by the way??

Personally wholesale pricing depends upon the RRP you think you can get from your clothes.

Retail owners generally like to get at least 100% profit on the goods, so figure out your RRp and half it and this could be somewhere near the wholesale price. Not sure if there are any "rules" set in stone for pricing.

I actually don't believe 100% markup is enough, but that is just my opinion. It depends on the type of business, the area, overhead...alot of things. If we only markup 100%, we will be out of business in no time. We generally get close to 200% markup on our transfer printed shirts, although screened shirts do come a bit closer to that 100% mark. Andrew, what type of printing method are your shirts, by the way??

Hey guys,

Thanks for all the help.

karlking85: What I meant by tricks was ways I could get shop owners to buy out right and not a buy and sell back deal.

I'm just using standard screen priniting

mamabloom: Thank you for the advice. I've had a chat with some friends in the business and they said 200% is about right.

Thank you so much you guys
