Q/A for a screen printing NOOB on ISS Atlantic City
So I was wondering if attending the ISS Atlatic City trade show would be worth going to for someone with little to no experiance. I was hoping to talk to some folks about the process of screen printing and maybe see some being done. Is the trade show mostly folks selling shirts or are their many venders selling press equipment?

The ISS show is specifically for the type of questions you have.
it's not a "fashion" tradeshow by any means.
It's where you'll see screen printing equipment, maybe even take classes, see vendors for all kinds of blanks and printing processes.
It's the perfect show for someone learning about the industry.
Re: Q/A for a screen printing NOOB on ISS Atlatic City
The absolutely best thing you could do would be to go to the show and take the screen printing workshop. It is a very good workshop that govers over all the major stuff. Not really focused on the advanced techniques. The cost for the workshop will be far less cheaper than the amount of time and product you will waste.
You will be able to talk to the screen printing equipment manufacturers on the trade show floor. But, this is one of the busiest shows and they will only have so much time to talk to as many people as possible. So, they will want to be focused on the features / benefits of their equipment and not so much on the basics of screen printing. I am not saying you can't learn some things on the trade show floor. However, if you are starting from ground zero... the absolutely best thing for you is the workshops / seminars. Some manufacturers (i.e. Vastex Int'l) put on basic screen printing workshops as well. So, you can check with the manufacturers about when they have a class scheduled and get the basic training before the show.

Hey Rodney I was wondering, will you be attending this years Atlantic City ISS. This forum has been a life saver in the amount of info and help I've gotten. Would love to thank you in person. I wasn't sure how helpfull a forum like this was going to be as I had allways heard "screen printers" were a tight lipped bunch. I see now that's far and away not true.
Re: Q/A for a screen printing NOOB on ISS Atlatic City
BTW- I noticed on the ISS Website they're not set up yet to register for Attendee's. When does this ussually happen? Before Christmas or Jan.??? I can't imagine they wait till Feb. , right??
Re: Q/A for a screen printing NOOB on ISS Atlatic City
I used to receive information early January for ISS Atlantic City but I remember it was a few weeks later last year. Also, I used to receive a brochure through snail mail but last year I only received an email.
Re: Q/A for a screen printing NOOB on ISS Atlatic City
Thanks Jennifer I was starting to become parinoid I missed the cut off or something. The website says "arround the fall" whatever THAT means. The hotel at the show says its full. I assume that means that the rooms are just blocked maybe?? I hope so as I really don't want to be getting a cab all over hillbilly hell to get to it. Thanks for the info.
If anyone hears from the ISS people please post so here. THANKS!!
Re: Q/A for a screen printing NOOB on ISS Atlatic City
Hey guys,
I'm also a newby here. I've always wanted to start a Tshirt line but didn't know where and how to begin. This forum has given me so much info and after reading other people's post, I came across the ISS forum (never even heard of it until now) I live in NYC and would like to attend the one in Long Beach but I figured I might as well wait for the Atlantic City Expo. I will be checking this forum regularly to check some more info regarding the ISS.
Re: Q/A for a screen printing NOOB on ISS Atlatic City
I saw some posts for the Atlanta Show from ISSShowGal that provided Promotional Codes for registration which would give free admission and discounts on the workshops. I just attempted to send an email about the Atlantic City Show, but her mailbox is full on T-Shirt Forums.
Any other way to get that code? I'm in New York City, and am a newbie to the t-shirt biz. Would LOVE to get away for a day or so, and get some education without paying a big bill -- just made all my start-up purchases, and the account is getting a little low!
Re: Q/A for a screen printing NOOB on ISS Atlatic City
Hi Melissa,
I'm from NYC as well. I've never been to an ISS Expo before so I'm definitely looking forward to the one in Atlantic City. I'm also inquiring on how to obtain the code for free. I've never printed a shirt before but already have some ideas and designs to print on. Hopefully others could help us on the code info.

Nice to meet you Christine! I ran a search on Atlantic City info, found this post, and after I posted, couldn't find it again! Didn't realize I was in the screenprint thread. I am usually in the heat press thread because I do digital heat transfers. Glad they email you when some replies to your post, or I never would have seen your reply!
Yes, I am hoping to go, although cash is a little light right now since I am still in the process of starting-up and purchasing all my equipment. That discount on the workshops and the free registration would make up for the long ride to AC!
Anyway, hope someone responds to this... It was a pleasure meeting a fellow New Yorker on the Forum. Somehow, I thought there would be more of us here... especially with all of the I (Heart) NY shirts floating around the City! LOL...
Re: Q/A for a screen printing NOOB on ISS Atlatic City
Nice to finally meet a fellow New Yorker. How are you doing on your start up business? I'm thinking of starting my own sometime this year but I'm really hoping after attending the ISS, it will give me more ideas and perhaps solve my solutions as to which approach I should go with considering money is also a main issue for me.
