Default how will I be perceived with only one design when trying to sell to retailers.

If I go with 225-250 shirts, I have no name recognition. I have two stores that have promised to carry my product. My problem is I will only have one design printed. Should I try to sell my product wholesale before I get more designs? I guess my real question is...how will i be perceived when i walk into a company trying to sell my shirt, with only one design?

Some retailers will be turned off by the lack of selection (just as some customers would).

If your one design is very strong, then some retailers may be willing to look pass the lack of selection and get just the one design (just as some customers would).

Do you believe I should just sell my shirt through the two stores I have, possibly a few more. Also, I assume we will have more sells through family friends...etc. marketing our shirt. I plan on retailing the shirt at 16-18$ and wholesaling form around 10. If I can sell 145 I believe I will break even. Once have done this I will order another design. Does this sound feasible?

You already have a thread where people have given you great suggestions on what to do in your situation

Regarding just having one design. I wouldn't recommend starting off that way.

I would invest in a smaller number of t-shirts and a larger number of designs.

You honestly have no idea if 225 t-shirts will sell. You *think* they will, but you really don't know.

So if your focus is more on the offline market selling to stores, I'd suggest coming up with more designs, printing a small amount of samples, and then seeing if any stores are interested in a wholesale purchase.

You can find a lot of information on the whole process of selling to retailers, including tips, pricing, advice, etc here: http://www.t-shirtforums.com/tags/retailers/

So you are advising I invest in one or two more designs and 25-50 shirts to have on hand, then order more as needed?

Sorry to sound silly but when you say designs do you mean a totally different logo or do you mean different style shirts with the same logo?
Thanks

Your numbers don't really add up.

Why are you printing 200+ shirts when you don't have that many orders? You have two stores who'll put in orders, which means you can easily justify a run, but why not just print what you need? (i.e. enough to cover actual purchase orders, and a little over)

Most retailers won't want to touch you with a wholesale price of $10 and a MSRP of $16. They'll normally want at least 100% markup (i.e. $10 wholesale = $20-$25 retail).

Ideally you should be practicing much the same thing yourself, which means you should be breaking even a little before 145. Also, it would be best if before you print a shirt you can say "I will break even at X" and not "I believe I will break" (if you can't you can't, so long as you're confident you're not losing money, but it would be for the best in the long run).

I was thinking the same thing when I saw the $10 wholesale price tag. You need to lower that to at least $8.00, which is right in the neighborhood of most screenprints in your price market. Unless you think you CAN get $10, then you need to raise your MSRP to at least $20 as Lewis said. It depends on the design, your competition, and what these retailers typically pay for a similar quality screened shirt.

I'm curious to see your design too, if you don't mind showing it.
