I'm based in the UK and am just starting off... I plan to sell my tees for £20 ($40), maybe £25 ($50) each on my website. They are printed on good quality Continental T-shirt and I plan to produce them in batches of limited edition runs.
However if I were to sell to shop in bulk / wholesale what sort of price do you charge per item? I was thinking somewhere in the region of £12($24) each?
The cost to make each tee is in the region of £5($10)
How do you work out the discounted rate? Do you base it on the number of bulk tees being bought? What sort of numbers do shops buy in?
I've been contacted by someone in the states who is interested in stocking from tees in their store and need to get some figures together...

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks in advance.
I am not in the shirt biz but why do they cost so much to produce? $24 wholesale on a shirt is very very steep here, more than retail even.
Re: How to price when selling in bulk / wholesale???
But I think the normal practice would be to find out how much the shirts are selling in the store for, and then offer them at 50%. Someone might correct me on this one though.

There are a few threads on this if you search the forums for retailers.
Also look at the "Similar Threads" heading at the bottom of this page. There are some links to information on calculating wholesale pricing for retail shops.
Basically, the wholesale price is half of your retail price (because the store will want to mark up the product at least 100%).
Re: How to price when selling in bulk / wholesale???
what you should do is first figure out you cost... from printing to hang tags. after you have a solid number, you take between 30 - 50 % of your cost and add it. whatever you get between the cost and the %'s is what you offer to the retailers.
Ex: cost $8
40% of $8 is = $3.20
offer to sell each piece at 8 + 3.20 = $11.20 / shirt
try to ask for a minimum thought. "ya ill sell you each shirt at $11 but you have to purchase a minimum of 36 qty.
this is just a rough estimate from researching in other parts of this forum..
