Default strategy help please/retail pre-orders

hey guys,

Up until now I've been printing my own stuff and able to print on demand when I get retail orders. However, I'm moving and will be outsourcing my work to the shop I used to work for, so I'm going to have to order larger quantities up front in order to get a decent price.

I have a small number of retail accounts, but am going to try and drum up some more business so I can get more shirts already sold and thereby get larger quantities printed at a time. What is the best way that I can explain my situation to new retail clients? I basically want to say that we've got some shirts in stock, but are coming out with a few new designs and are taking orders that will ship, like, June 12th or something. What's the best way to say that and sound like not small-time?

thanks in advance!

I know some sell to retail that take orders and then fill orders with the appropriate lead/delivery times. Just set your payment terms, quantity pricing, and lead/delivery times.

I would try to work some promo/marketing strategy/plan into it that would support the product delivery/release date X. Use that as part of the sell to promote the pre-book to buyers...and of course it would help the product too.

Hype it up with a release date, like music artists do with new records.

if you're going to take the pre-book approach, while you are there talking to the buyer, what has been done in the past is you take out a mag full page ad and inform the buyer their store name will be included in the ad where peeps can buy.

-----------------------------------
the other side of the coin,
at this stage of the game it depends who your buyers are. A lot of them when they like what they see they may want to buy it right there and then and not wait for it.

So, it's always good to have ready made stock to sell and promote too.
