Default Curious About Pre ORDERS with Retailers!!

I am trying to workout the printing on DEMAD in a different fashion thoguh. I would like to get as many orders as I can letsd say 50 different retailers, tell them we will be printing as soon as we meet our quota, then upon quota met, get 50% upfront and 50% upon delivery.

Have people tried to do this in a manner that works?

The idea would be to make enough money up front to pay for the Hard Costs then upon delivery make your profit

Can anyone shed some light on this. You only have so many options

Pay all up front
Pay 50% deposit
Pay on delivery
Or NET 30 TERMS (which can add up quickly, if all your product is out with no money in HAND)

Curious what routes have workded for you all. Thanks

Retailers are going to want their products in a timely fashion. I don't think many will be willing to wait until you have a certain number of orders, then ship the products to them. It's just not the way they do business.

If cash is what you need in order to fill the orders, you may want to check out factoring:

Preorders are fairly standard... but with a set delivery date. Retailers are on even tighter constraints than you are, so for the most part they're not going to be interested in making a commitment to your product when you won't make a commitment to delivering it.

Why would you have to meet a certain quota? Just set the MOQ per style that they have to order so if only one retailer orders only one style, you know you can do it. Just make sure you set all your terms beforehand. For example: set an MOQ that you can deal with, for smaller orders have them pay upfront, for large orders accept 50% advance and 50% due upon confirmation of shipping. I would never accept 50% after your merch has left your hands. That would be a huge loss (depending on the order) if they decided not to pay. Unless you are checking credit, it might be ok.

This isn't doing "printing on demand," it just says "I am small and don't have enough money to print short runs, so I am going to make all of you wait until I take money from you, to pay my printer, and also pay less for each print." It's obvious.

Retailers will know this, and won't do business with you. I suggest not providing any terms to the retailers if you're just starting out, especially without any money. I believe 50 deposit, 50 on delivery is a fair way to do business.

Not saying your concept is bad, because in a perfect world it'd be awesome---but it's just plain bad business.
