Default T-shirts at Green Festival and "All Things Organic" Trade Show

I went to the Green Festival in Chicago on Sunday - lots of people, lots of companies, and LOTS of t-shirts! Got a little bit disheartened when I saw how many people are printing on organic Ts, bamboo Ts, hemp Ts: are there room for me too? But thinking about it, a lot of them are doing the same thing, using the same printer, all waterbased (one said they print with vegetable based inks? Never heard of it), but nothing out of the ordinary. Maybe I just have to worry less about following the trends and do more of my own thing...

Anyway, I saw there is another "green" tradeshow coming to Chicago soon: “All Things Organic” Trade Show, May 6th-8th. I won't be able to go again, but the website has quite a few interesting links to t-shirt companies - The 2007 All Things Organic Presented by the Organic Trade Association. There are wholesalers that I've never heard of before. May be another resource if you're looking for organic / bamboo t-shirts.

It's nice to have a niche to yourself, but you shouldn't really feel disheartened that people are being more environmentally conscious

Yeah, I went to a "Widespread Panic" show this weekend 4/20/07 and there was a guy doing the same thing I was......selling shirts. His company was "Widespread Hemp". They were promoting all the organic tees with their company name on it and charging crazy prices for shirts and hats, but I wasn't sure what to think about it. I just got an e-mail link from Anvil this week promoting them, but I think I'm going to stick with what I use instead of targeting a narrower market, and having to up prices or take money out of my pocket. "Trust and value" is key! I find that companies tend to like money and want to save "it" a little more than the environment. Thats just my thought. Most of my customers would rather have better prices so they can resale, but thats just the client base I have.

Yes, you are right! I'm glad that the tide is turning, even our little supermarket is starting to carry more organic food and natural cleaning products. It's a good thing.

Oh, American Apparel had a booth at the Green Fest too - with their organic t-shirt range in all sorts of colors. When did they start to do more than natural? It was nice to see all the different colors.

Their retail site doesn't list anything other than natural, so I'm guessing it's either a new range, or they just dyed them to show the possibilities. American Apparel does have a great colour selection though, so it would be great if they were able to bring that approach to organic shirts (the dyes unfortunately being the biggest barrier).

Hi,

I am in the solar business for my real job, and its true people are motivated on the fact that it saves them money, what they fail to think of is that mother earth gets a little break from all that crap we put in the air, it is very striking that people in the solar business and the customers are all for profit or saving money but let us not forget ,that, directly results in saving our enviroment for generations to come.

So the morral of the story is that for the first time greed actually has a good outcome!!!! All I can say is goooo green!!!!!!

There were 2 companies at the Green Fest that has those messenger bags with solar panels on it to recharge your laptop, cellphone, i-pod, etc... Too cool! Just still a bit too expensive.
