Chuy, I am just looking into getting into the t-shirt business but I can give you a little info on generators. Here is a couple formulas to use. All your info will be tagged on the equipment you are using. Watts = Amps x Volts or Watts / Volts = Amps Whichever one you want to use will work. All your portable generators out there are rated in watts. So just do a little math by adding all your equipment up and multiply for what rating you want to use and you should put yourself right in the ballpark for what you need. As for pricing that depends on quality. The top of the line is the Honda's and Yamahas which are super quiet but you will pay for that. Briggs and Stratton makes a good generator (which I have and use for racing) and is medium on the sound level. You also have a variety of choices on the number of outlets you want and the type of voltage, some come with 110/220 volt capabilities. To give you a rough price estimate mine is a Briggs and Stratton 4800Watt generator with (4) 110volt 20amp sockets and (1) 220volt 20amp socket and I paid around $500 for it. Just don't try to save a buck and buy a cheapy no name model because in the long run you will be sorry. Hope this helps you out.....................Sean
Thanks for the answers. And thanks for the formula, Sean. I think now I can have a better idea of what I need. I think the 4800 watt sounds about the right size.
It really depends on how much gear you are running. You dont want to match those numbers up exactly and certainly dont want to not have enough power. I would buy a larger unit for what you plan on running. A heatpress will take forever to heat and recover from pressing. The extension cord run is very important, try and keep it as short as possible. Fuel consumption is something to look at as well. The units will give you two different consumption ratios probably being full load and half load. On more expensive and larger units some sort of voltage regulator is available to protect electronic gear from peaks and valleys in the current. I would try to buy at the very least a 1000 more watts than needed and 2000 is even better.
Like David said, depending on your equipment. We're planning to purchase a Honda EU2000. It's a big more expensive, but cleaner, quieter, and much more compact.

What kinda power does that Honda unit generate? Do you take your DTG on the road?
The Honda EU2000 generates max 2000W (16.7A) and produces about 59dB, or 53dB at 1/4 load. It weights about 46.3lbs. The 2 times that I've taken it on the road, I rented the AC outlets from the organizer.

The cool thing about it is that you can daisy chain several of them to boost output. So if one doesn't cut it, you can purchase another one later and connect them. They're really clean, quiet, and light but quite expensive (about $1000 for the 2000watts model). You can connect all your electronic equipment directly to the generator because the output current is very stable. For now, I'm just buying it for personal use to test out the model, mostly camping. But yeah, a heat press will take up most of the power. The 2 we have are rated 1200watts each I believe.

I know this is an old thread but thought I would start here rather than posting a new thread
I don't know much about electricity so forgive me but I talked to Anajet and they said a generator would be fine, my question is as in this thread, will I be able to power the dtg and heat press. I have an excellent opportunity on Memorial weekend and would like to set up but need to know if my generator is going to be enough.
Mine says it is 5500 watts and 8250 starting watts (not sure what that means) but I have a chance to take my anajet and heatpress to a big event but want to make sure I will have enough power to do it
