DEs = Design Entrepreneurs (the target audience of Kathleen Fasanella's blog, so you'll see the term used a lot).

Jobers = jobbers.

Bump for a very informative article. I was just about to post asking about payment terms and such, then I searched and came across this.

Does anyone else have any advice on this topic? What are your payment terms (if any) with the retailers that buy your stuff?

That was a very useful article for those starting out in business for the first time.
I used to own an auto-glass company and I can remember having receivables for $40-50 K . For a 2 man operation that was a bit much. I had to find creative ways of dealing with that since it was mainly large leasing companies and insurance companies that owed me the bulk of that. That's when it pays to get to know the accounts payables people in person. Once you become a face and not just a name, even huge companies can be dealt with effectively.
For smaller customers I offered discounts for COD and short term credit (net 10 prox 2%). It is always nice to get your money up front if possible ie: credit card sales. I even purchase my goods using a credit card. The methodology has to fit the customer base that you do business with.
Good Luck
