Default Festival questions

Ok, so I've been running some calculations.

I've never done a festival or show, I've only sold shirts at my work and went to the flea market once (btw, that was not a good experience, I sold nothing)

but I've been doing the calculations to see how it will be when I do one.

here is what I've come up with and PLEASE critize everything you see needs it.

I dont know the exact # but im estimating...

Cost of space at festival....... $100 (one day)
Cost of Gas to get there....... $50
Cost of food to spend there ..$50
Misalanius cost ......................$20

cost of 50 shirts .....................$200
cost of 20 tote bags................$40
Cost of 70 transfers ...............$105

Total cost of doing show .... $345

income I can make...

50 shirts at $15 each ......$750
20 bags at $12 eacg .........$240
Total $ I can make. ...........$990

Income $990 minust cost of everything $345 = $425 -$77(to irs) = $348

Does that sound about right?

Like I said I've never done a festival or a show, so I dont know how many shirts to take or expect to sell.

and depending on the festival, event, wheather and type of people that I think will show is the types and sizes of shirts I will take.

How is that?

I would think you are entitled to make a hourly wage for yourself and a helper. Just because your business is making a profit doesn't mean you as a invidual should not be paid too. After all walmart has a employee cost to write off. .........JB

Default Re: Festival questions

ok so if I calculate that in it will be...

$348

myself and my husband...

8 hours X $10 = 80 each

so do I minus that from the profit?

348 - 160 = $188

How is that?

and does that sound like a good profit from a festival or event...

what are the outcomes from your experiences?

I was trying to say that your business profit and your hourly wage are seperate. I think your profit for the day is fine if it makes you happy......... JB

Where is the electrical charge? Bring your own food and drinks. What type shirts are you selling to what type crowd? You may be able to reduce that cost a bit.

Good idea! about the food.

and about the electicity? if I pre make all the shirts I wouldent need electicity. I think thats what I will do.

I'm not going to a specific festival right now... I'm just running the numbers to see if its all worth it. when I know what festival or event I will be going to then I will have to figure out what type of shirts to make.

Its kind of like sterio typeing people.

for example...
If I will be going to a car show... I will most likley bring hard core shirts for men and women, sizes from small to 2x but most large and XL.

if I will be going to a dog show... of course bring shirts relating to pets.

for a baby show, bring lots of kids sizes, and womens shirts.

and so on.

Where are you getting your shirts that you are paying $4?
Is this just a general number for different sizes and colors?

If you can make a buck seventy five each for a days worth of work and spend time together looks like a winner.

I've done a few shows now, but I wouldn't consider myself an expert. Here are a couple of my thoughts:

Why pre-press the shirts? Shirts don't go bad, if you have blank shirts left over, it will reduce the cost of your NEXT show. If you've pre-pressed a bunch of shirts, say dogs, and you don't do a dog event for a while, you may be stuck with a bunch of inventory you won't sell. If you leave them blank, you can use them again sooner.

So far, only the really BIG events have charged me extra for electricity. An event I'm doing next month is charging $350 for entry plus another $105 for electricity. Most of my shows have included the power. The trick is getting ENOUGH power to run a heat press

Several of the events I've booked do not allow outside food or drink. They don't want competition for their on-site concessions.

Make sure you include travel expenses. Gas, food, hotel (if not local).

...Mat

I'm figuring I will get colored shirts, thats how I came up with the $4 each shirt.

Quote:

If I dont pre-press the shirts then I have to take my heat press, and use electricity if available if not, will probably need a generator (if possible)

I'm not sure I'm ready to take my press on the road...... but if I do....

will I then just but the transfers in a binder for them to chose a design???

So for this show it will cost a lot of money to be in the show plus the cost of the shirts, so does this mean you have to do lots of shirts to make profit? or just charge more?
thats the part I dont understand, how do we make money when it cost so much to even be a part of the festival or event??
