I've only been doing indoor events so far; dog shows, etc. I want to expand into outdoor events as well, but I'm worried about weather effecting both sales (people not wanting to shop in the rain/wind) and my equipment (plotter, heat press, computer).

Any comments about working outside? How do you deal with adverse weather, and power needs?

Thanks

...Mat

If its raining you wont be doing anything but covering the electronics and wishing you were inside. You need to become somewhat a weather person as you plan outdoor events. A 10x10 ez-up will offer very little shelter if the rain is coming down and there is any wind. The tents also collect water in massive pools up top and need to be drained periodically so bring a broom handle and a slicker.

When you plan events, promoters either will have elect. available for a fee or you will need to get a generator.

David, and all others, can I use a surge protector to connect my heat press, laptop and printer for outdoor events, or if not, what should I use?

If the event organizers will provide electricity, but they said you bring your own extension cord, what normally should you bring on outdoor fairs?

Thanks in advance!

Bring a heavy duty outdoor extension cord and make sure it's long enough. You will need some sort of shelter-most common and easiest to use are the pop up tents. EZ UP is the more well known brand. Wal_mart sells another brand for about $90 + tax and it is good quality ( I have an EZ Up and a WM brand one) Also make sure you brings water proof tarps to cover your stuff it it starts raining and make sure they are big enough to completely cover your electronics. Also bring something to secure the tarps over your equip. Also make sure you have steaks or some sorts of weights for your shelter. This will hopefully keep your shelter form blowing away in high winds. Also make sure to check the weather and remember they have been known to be wrong.
