Default pricing for wholesale

This might be a newbie question, but I need help with pricing.

I don't have a handle on the pricing structure. What are retail stores looking to make on the shirts I sell to them?

Are there any standard rules of thumb? I would like to attend a tradeshow in the near future and need to get a grip on pricing??

The rule of thumb (definitely not set in stone) is 100% markup: the wholesaler (in this case, you) marks up their cost 100%, then the retailer marks it up a further 100%.

So if the item costs $4 to make you sell it to the retailer for $8 and they sell it to the customer for $16.

Does this stay the same if you are going overseas?

I have a potential order coming out of France and need to quote them my wholesale price. So, would it be the same across the board?

Thanks!

Yes, but don't figure out the wholesale until you import. There are allot of costs you have to gauge. Wait until you know what your "landed cost" is.

hi there, this is sort of the question i was going to ask, we are into infant and toddler wear and are starting to get quite a few orders for the fall season. Our wholesale prices are about 60 to 70% of our costs (not 100% like you suggested) Actually we have been struggling with what we should charge since the clothing seem to cost so much to make but we see similar products for "cheap" prices in many baby stores. (talking about onesies, etc, from American APparel) I am sure that these "cheaper" items are made by much bigger companies who print thousands unlike us, but i would love to talk to anyone who is just starting out and the prices they use for wholesale and how it is going. We have absolutely no idea how much a store owner pays for their products. Here is an example of one of our products, please let us know what you think of our pricing? I know this is getting personal but this site is our only connection to ask... hehe
So for us to buy, ship and print a onesie we spend $7 - and that doesnt include our time to create the designs. THen we sell in 3's whole sale for $10 and online retail for $21. Does this seem worth it? THanks for the input. Is it best to make a little profit when you start to get your name out their, or make more to put back into the company to improve and grow! YIKES< thanks
