I would call that a mock turtle. Those are laces inserted through grommets most likely. It's probably a thicker fabric though - so the collar will stand up.

That lace around the neck will land you in recall city if you plan on using this style for children.

Nice design though - kind of nautical.

Hey Karateken,

Yeah, you've really got to watch out. One Mom complains and whoosh, you have to recall the whole lot.
But that style is cute.

An example: There were these really cute boots for kids with metal character cutouts hanging from the zips.
The two zips got stuck together and the kid stumbled and grazed her knee. So they recalled 2000 boots because of one knock kneed kid. Mind you, you never know, a kid could fall from that height of 12 inches and just kill themselves. What a waste (of boots).

yea, this style is actually from an anime series. some great styles can be found in those.
