After 5 Years Mimaki Has Changed Their Inks!!
TP2 to TP3... great.... like a blind date w ur own sister..
NO Improvement In Colors.
We Still Need to Double Hit Everything!!!
They Jacked up the price & gave us less ink per cartridge.
Has anyone tried the Dupont Inks n the Mimaki?
Has anyone tried to PreTreatment White Shirts to get better color?
How is the new ink on cotton/poly garments?
Well, this is a question I was waiting from time ago. The epson 10000 printheads of the Mimaki GP have a little bigger nozzles than the epson 4880 so I think it's compatible, but maybe you'd have to modify your maintenance protocol. Regarding the white ink, maybe you can use the discharge printheads, but you have to think about the number of nozzles firing white ink, if they're enough for a good underbase, and also, look at the Rasterlink RIP rip to see if you can adjust the white intensity.
Also: DON'T DO THIS AT HOME but, as the Mimaki has the printheads separated so there's no cross-contamination on the capping, one could try to fire pretreatment at the same time of the white and see what happens. (This experiment is only for screwed machines, never intended nor suggested to try on a working machine) :-)
PS: I suspect somebody's tried something similar and I guess there's people printing on the mimakis with dupont ink, but that's only a suspicion.
TY Robert.. I m only looking to try the Duponts in CMYK.. Not the White. I think Hirsch/Fresner have tested that w no Success.
Dupont Artsitri inks are used in the re-Engineered Epson 2200 & 4800, are the CMYK printheads very similar?
Well, might some vendor correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the Mimaki GP-604D has Epson DX4 (10000) printheads, the same as the Roland wide printers, and also correct me if I'm wrong saying that the 4800 printheads have the nozzles tighter than the GP-604D printhead.
I'm a Mimaki GP-604D owner and I started with TP3. Did'nt know it's Dupont though, but I would'nt be too surprised if it is. May I ask where did you get that info?
Yep, I have to agree that the inks are expensive; even the cleaning fluid cartridge is priced the same as the Discharge Fluid. Maybe we have to clamor for a bulk ink system on our machines. There's already bulk ink system for the JV wide format machines so I think they could also come up with something for the GP machines.

The TP3 are not Dupont inks, not sure where it comes from. I have not noticed any improvement in color n the TP3. NADA! I could go on a rant, but...
I would like to try the Duponts inks to see if there is an improvement in color. We currently DOUBLE print every design. DOUBLES the ink & labor costs.
Greg:
The following is very dry....
I am paying $80 per 210ml Cartridge which is $380/liter. Brother Ink is $700/liter
Mimaki Needs 2 Hits to Get OK Color, Brother Needs 1 Hit to Get BETTER Color.
Mimaki's Need for 2 Hits Gets the Cost to $760/Liter
MIMAKI INK IS MORE EXPENSIVE.
But.... MIMAKI IS Quicker, I can get 120 prints per hour from the GP604.
Mitchell, just a clarification here:
Do you print with an "overprint value 1", and after printing on that, you, print again (second pass);
don't you get "alignment issues" this way; or
you print with an "overprint value 2"?
Also, the Rasterlink RIP shows how much cc amount of ink was consumed, did you check on that, and what was your average ink consumption on, say, an 8 x 10 image?
by the way, 120 prints per hour is impressive, and seeing this, I think some DTG users might get interested with the Mimaki again, .
do you print with an "overprint value 1", and after printing on that, you, print again (second pass) we print 1 overprint & 2 remotes. With 2 overprints, we get mottling or spots in the solid colors don't you get "alignment issues" this way; or you print with an "overprint value 2"? no alignment issues, if you are having alignment issues you may have a problem w ur encoder switch or strip
also, the rasterlink rip shows how much cc amount of ink was consumed, did you check on that, and what was your average ink consumption on, say, an 8 x 10 image? i don't use their numbers, it has been 5 years since we have. They alway calculated the cost way higher! To get cost we weigh all inks, do a run of a few hundred. Wiegh again after the run & get the total grams of ink used. 1 gram = 1 ml = 1 cc
by the way, 120 prints per hour is impressive, and seeing this, i think some dtg users might get interested with the mimaki again, That is 120 prints. Only 60 Shirts/hour since we "double print" everything..
