Default mimaki 604D DTG

Do any of you use the Mimaki 604D?

I am impressed with what I have seen of the machine at the shows I have attended.

It is alot heaver built than the other more popular machines out there.
Uses discharge instead of white ink, no pre-treating, etc.

Higher cost for machine but looks like alot more for the money.

Looking for other opinions.
Thanks,
Greg

I dont think the quality of the Mimaki prints are all too good from what I've seen, especially not for the price.

The discharge system is very innovative though. I think the only other ones are $100k Kornit machines.

Hi, I have a mimaki 604D. I have had it for 9 months. I have printed 14,000 shirts with it so far. I run it 16 -24 hours a day. The machine is heavy duty. I have not had any real problems with it. The speed could be faster. The discharge does not come close to white ink. It is a great machine for lights but my customers want a bright white look. I am looking at the new kornit and the t-jet jumbo 2. Any feedback on either of these machines.

Thanks for the info.
If I go with Mimaki I believe I'll get the 604 without the discharge.
The 604 runs much faster.

Does it give you bright colors on light shirts?

Have you had any issues with it?

How is it with photo reproduction?

Thanks,
Greg

I have not had any real problems with the machine. A couple of "damper" issues but that is a consumble item anyway. I run vector spot color designs. Many colors but still spot colors only. I have printed a few photo designs and I was very happy with it. I think the colors are bright. I have no problems with white or ash shirts. Black and navy is another story........

Approx. how many shirts can you do in an hour without the discharge.
Assuming a medium size and coverage on one side?

Do you do sleeves and or pant legs?

How about hooded sweatshirts?

Sorry for all the questions but I am close to making a decision and every bit of input I can get from a real world owner is greatly appreciated.

Thanks again,
Greg

I just received my sample shirts from mimaki and I was not impressed. I would not want that for a dark shirt and my Brother printer does much better on light colored shirts.
I was looking for something for darks but it will not be the mimaki

I would recommend the Brother over the Mimaki, but that is only my opinion.

don't know if this thread is dead, but I'm also a Mimaki owner. I'm very happy with my purchase. Yes, the discharge doesn't pass for white ink, but I didn't expect it to.. there are a number of creative and interesting things that can be done with it. as Shannon states earlier, it is a very well built machine, the only other I've seen that seems to be built this well is the Brother. (I guess you get what you pay for.) I have seen the Kornits, but at that price, they are out of the range of all but the biggest companies. There is a very innovative way that you can print two shirts at a time, since the print area is 16x24, you can obtain a special pallet setup that allows for printing two 11x16 designs. there are a ton of other features that make this a great machine.

Dan, is it possible to post some examples of designs on light and on dark shirts maybe with some discharge samples of those creative things you are talking about. Also what quantities do you have to produce to get a reasonable Return On Investment withing X nr. of years.
