Question Is there heat transfer paper with a backing so I can cut and weed?

Hi all.

Is there such a thing as heat transfer paper (laser) with a backing so I can cut out the printed image and then weed it like vinyl?

I know there seems to be alot of talk about self weeding, from what I can tell it's not easy.

I am getting a plotter/cutter soon and it would be great if I could use that.

Many thanks...

You can use a cutter with an optical eye and cut around the image, other than that I'm not sure.

The trasnsfers for Dark Shirts, such as TransJet III, have a backing that once you cut around what you want to put on the T-shirt you can peel off. If you have an optic eye cutter to cut around the picture or graphic all the better. Look for transfers used for dark t-shirts and you will find what you arfe looking for.

Hi, thanks for the replies....

Was realy looking for transfers for white and lights as have had bad experience with the dark transfer papers. I should be able to cut round the whole image ok with my cutter, but I'm concious that some images will have seperate parts to it, seperated by white space.

If there is no lights transfer paper with a backing to helo weeding, does anyone know of a backing product that I could add t the transfers myself, so I can then cut just the transfer leaving the backing in place?

Thanks again...

You can use the dark transfers on white as well. I do this all the time. I many times mix the dark transfer that I can take the back off and then use vinyl for any lettering.

Laser transfer paper takes a lot of heat to transfer. You need to use high temp mask such as Magic Mask. Otherwise, the mask will melt on the shirt if it can't take the heat.

Why don't you try Imageclip for laser instead. It is self weeding. Don't need to trim it.

Works well even on light pastel and slightly darker color shirt.

Or you can try the masking technique that I use for inkjet or laser transfer paper that leaves polymer window. I use plain paper that I contour cut then use it to cover the unprinted area of the transfer paper.

Check this link: http://www.t-shirtforums.com/p448921-post12.html

BTW you can get the carrier sheet to hold the transfer or plain paper for contour cutting from Joann's fabric. A lot cheaper than sold by vinyl supplier. You can't you use it for pressing.
