Default OI C5200N and Durracotton HT troubles

received some sample packs today from Dye-namic but I have had terrible results. I am using the OkiC5200c and can not get perfect results. I do not have plain laser paper and I have had this printer put up for a couple of years now and thought maybe now with technology I could get good results. Well first let me say I think my kids used the printer for something and used reg paper and I had a terrible paper jam inside the fuser. I had to take the two screws out of it and that was the only way to get this old burn looking colored piece of paper about 4 inches long by 8 1/2 wide out of it. I took out the toners one by one to make sure there was no paper jams. I live about 35 miles away from anywhere you can buy paper so all I had was card stock. I ran the card stock through one at a time and kept adjusting the color until I got a good color to show up. Well I tried to run one of the Durracotton HT and instantly I got paper jam so then I printed 5 full color sheets of what I used to make transfers with (photo) and then tried it again well it did print but not very good. It had missing parts that didnt print or that actually looked like it melted right off the paper. I got a sample pack of something saying help us name this. I tried to print that one as well. That printed better but now it had extra black on it in a spot or two. I did transfer this at the recommended setting on a brank new geo knight press and both were hard to peel so just had to keep repressing to be able to peel at all. I have taken some pix If I can figure out how to upload I will so any advice would be great am I doing something wrong? The one that said help us name it turned out better but has a few bad spots like the transfer stuck to the paper and didnt release and yyou can see the extra black ink in the grill and bumper of the truck of it.

The second and fourth ones are actual tshirts sorry not camera just my phone

I have a c5800 and it has printed Duracotton quite well. I have encountered all of the results you mention. I have also tried the new "you name it" paper with no luck at all. My fuser seems to run too hot no matter what I do.

So, lets deal with your duracotton issues.

1. I suspect when the toner flakes off that the fuser is NOT hot enough. I get this very rarely. I try to start my print jobs by running 5 blank sheets through to keep the fuser at the correct temp. I print on "heavy" Normal ink and with the setting a bit lighter for color/contrast.

2. This paper needs a very hot press with the most pressure your press can stand. I print at 402c for 20 secs and peel very, very hot, like burn my fingers hot and it peels like butter. In a large order I might get 2 that mysteriously print like your image 2 does

3. If you get the black splotches, you have something left on your fuser, I run 5 blank sheets if this happens.

4. looks like the same issue as #2.

Keep playing with both papers, I still hope to get the new paper to print because when I do get a good print I love the colors you can print on...Duracotton is only for white, natural or light pink, the new paper I can print yellow, light blue, lime green and ash (thats all Ive tried any ways) in addition to pink, natural and white.

Good luck!

Thanks for the quick reply I am using the most pressure that I can to get it down the press that is. It is a manual swing away. I did run 5 or so blank card stock through the manual feed and the color on them looked fine but just when I got to the transfers the problems started. I will keep trying a bit more. This is one of the reasons the printer was put out of service. I could not get a good consistent print and could not afford to ruin more than I could print. Thanks again for the quick reply.

I had a heck of a time ruining paper before I found a consistent process. That is one of the downfalls to getting started, there is lots to learn! You can ruin your transfer at many points along the way...

you can forget to revers your image
get a printer jam
get extra blobs of ink
not have a hot enough print so the toner doesn't adhere correctly
trim your image and OOPS cut too close (I hate this one)
Press your image crooked
forget to use a lint roller (I end up with little blue fuzz if I dont)
have the image not transfer all the way.

I think for anyone getting into the heat transfer bus, you have to count on blowing 100 sheets of paper and 20 shirts before you figure it all out. and thats just for printing on lights!

I had to save my pennies, run some tests, save more pennies, buy more paper/shirts run more tests. You will get there!

With the issues you have had with your printer fuser, I do wonder if it is working a bit against you:/
