Hi everyone I am new here but want to thank everyone for your help. I am looking at getting the Oki c5500 printer, after some research imageclip looks like the paper to use, and maybe others from time to time. My question is the Oki c5500 looks to be a LED printer, are all OKI printers LED?? Is there a difference with LED and Laser?? Also, where is the cheapest place to get imageclip paper, for darks and lights,,,Im looking to print mostly black t shirts and whites occassionaly. Thanks for your help.
you might want to read the recent thread on the oki c5850 and transfers...We have an oki c6150 and have had similar problems as related in this thread.
sorry, meant to add if you use the WOW paper for dark tees(it's a 2 step process)be very careful or you run the risk of gumming up your fuser - and may require a new one.
If the OKI is giving problems like that,,,,,what printer is recommended?? I hear alot of people say the OKI printers,,,,then many say they have issues while other OKI owners say they have no issues,,,,,I am lost....LOL.
An LED printer uses a bar of very tiny LEDs to sensitize the drum (which picks up the toner and transfers it to the paper). OKI has been using this technology for many years. A laser uses a rotating mirror to scan the laser beam across the drum to sensitize it. The key to an LED printer is having all of the LEDs "matched" in intensity or else you can possibly have lines (actually light spots) down the print. The advantages of LEDs are reliability, cost, and theoretically there is less error toward the edges of a drum as compared to a laser. One other thing to note, OKI uses a toner that melts at a lower temperature, making it a favorite for those that print on transparencies. The toner particles are symmetical and not course like other manufacturers.
Hello
I have the 5500 printer. I have used a couple of different papers in it.
Only had the paper melting to the fuser a couple of times but those were due to mostly my fault.
With the Duracotton samples I got I did not run the blank sheets to warm it up first as they said to. When I did no problem.
I think one other time I also had it happen and that was due to the wrong paper selection.
Biggest issues supposedly is that the lasers don't print photos as good as the inkjets due to the printers resolutions. Inkjets achieves higher resolution than the c5500. However I never printed the same pic on the inkjet then the laser and compared.
I've had it couple of years now I think. And still using the oem toners that came with it. Not sure were I will get them from when the run out. Not sure if 3rd party toners will work as good or better or worse.
Occassionally it seems to fubar up and print lines or spotches. Not sure why. It doesn't get moved around at all. but then reprint and it seems to be okay.
In my mind two things matter when printing transfers with it are.
Selecting the right paper weight (I normally use heavy)
and research what others have used in settings to get good color and no fuser wraps.
I also plan on going with the c5500 in a couple of months. I am also planning on getting a 15 x 15 might heat press as well. I'll to experiment with a bunch of papers to find the best combination, but hopefully if all goes well I can make a few bucks on the side selling shirts.
I was just looking at the power requierments for the heat presses and I noticed they tend to use quite a bit of electricity. Would I need to run a special outlet for the press?

I was worried about that too, but I have used my 16x20 Mighty Press by Stahl in at least 3 locations (including my home office with standard outlet) and have had no problems.
Alright, thanks. I'm just going to pick a spot in my house that isn't using much power and use it there. If I need to make special arrangements, I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. I just hope the circuit breakers do their job if things don't go as hoped.
I use my Hix 15x15 swingman in my enclosed florida room. If I recall right the whole room runs on one 15 amp breaker (the ceiling fan may be on its own but don't really recall). Out here I have 1 -3 computers going with a crt monitor and 2 lcd monitors. A epson inkjet, oki laser and ricoh gx-7000 (that stay on ) plus a stereo and of course a fan with light kit oh and my USCutter vinly cutter. At times most if not all of this stuff is on at one time when I have the heat press running. I do not believe I have ever blown the breaker(s).
Normallly the most juice needed is on startup. once heated it should not suck down anymore. (at least most electronics are that way if I recall my electronics from high school).
