Hello fellow Kornit users. I was hoping to get some insight into how other folks configure profiles and what seems to work.
Although I understand that the optimal solution is to generate profiles for different garments and colors, our business is always just busy enough for that to be a hassle. (I deal with the prepress and ripping end of things. Our production manager operates the Kornit.) We get sufficient/acceptable results by tweaking parameters and methods on the fly. I think I would only embark on a complete system calibration-type effort if I was convinced that our prints would improve significantly as a result.
I only use Onxy for ripping (color management: all profiles off). I do all my color correction and profile assignment in Photoshop. I've experimented with various substrate options (Toyo, Euro...), dot gains and black generation and found that US Webcoated (SWOP) v2 is a reliable profile provided that I desaturate the colors before ripping.
Dot gain is a mystery to me. I would assume that dot gain isn't an issue with dtg, but when I use profiles with 0% dot gain, colors are WAY too saturated.
The different substrates are also a mystery. Google hasn't given me much to work with.
Black generation: medium seem to be the way to go.
If anyone has any input or tips or know-how, feel free to join in. I know that there are profiles created by David in Wisconsin for Onxy, but thought that a general discussion might be useful.
66 views. If you look at this and don't respond, is it because you never mess with profiles? Because you only tweak profiles through eye-one/calibration type technology?
Or most likely, because most Kornit owners (not all, just most) don't tend to help the competition; ie, other Kornit users. Just my thoughts... Greg from NextShirt is very helpful, as is Bob from ContractDTG. Profiling can be a very tricky thing... Good luck!
Profiles for the Kornit are available from Kornit. Are you using the Onyx at this time or using the new Kornit Quick P Designer?
You may call our office for assistance.

What's the point of this forum?
I've emailed/called Kornit Wisconsin more than a few times. I emailed some technical questions to D Burkowitz and his only response (after multiple follow up calls over the course of a month) was "come to our class in Wisconsin."
Well, the point is certainly not to call out other members in wholesale, and expect that they will just jump to give you information... And for the record, Kornit owners are different than most others. If you paid $20k for a machine that hundreds of other people have, there are lots of people to share ideas with. If you spend $100k+ on a machine, where only a handful of people have them (and those people are using them to control certain segments of the market), then why would those select few try and help each other out? I am just telling you how it is, man. Look at how active this forum has been, compared to the Brother / T-Jet or DTG forums on this same site; that should verify exactly what I am saying.
You can check out www.kornitusers.com for Kornit-specific info, but there aren't a lot of active members; most just read. However, there is some archived info, and some good tips and tricks, if you want to use the info. Good luck.
All Kornit owners I know have formed a relationship with other Kornit owners and their distributor to get answers to their questions. In the past, posting to a forum with a problem or question only resulted in a lambasting of the product by non or former Kornit owners and it became a big waste of time.
I suggest you contact Kornit North America and they will definitely help you with your questions.

That's funny, since I had been posting about the Kornit for almost 2 years with very little "lambasting" from anybody.... Seems many people (including many who now like to make remarks about the many, many people who have been screwed by Kornit) sure didn't mind using all the information I and several others used to post when things were going well with the machine, but suddenly turn a deaf ear when they don't like what they're hearing... Cute.
And I stand by my statement; I have been on these forums for several years, and (with the exception of a year and a half period of time) there has NEVER been much participation from Kornit users; never. Heck, look at the posts in this forum, compared to other forums. Look at the Kornit User Forum, where "some" users DID band together for awhile, but not many, and they never posted often. The fact stands; people who own Kornits act very differently than people who own the smaller machines. It is not necessarily a negative thing, but sorry, that's the way it is.

And no, Kornit North America does NOT necessarily help you out right away when you call, despite what some current owners like to try and tell people. The response that I just quoted is typical of how many problems are resolved, actually, and that is not coming from me or any "former" machine owners; that is from someone who is CURRENTLY seeking information.
The phones to Kornit North America are always open and are available for assistance at any time. With a full staff of engineers we can diagnose any situation and help our clients. If a client is out of warranty, a small but reasonable service fee is charged. This fee is for a per instance call, or can be set up for a yearly contract for unlimited support. Kornit will not turn away any client in need of service. All customers that are under our warranty program receive unlimited support at no charge.
Kornittech; how much is the extended warranty program? Also, what is your policy for problems that don't get solved within the "3 day standard", after you've had your meeting of engineers? ie, what do you do for Kornit owners, after you realize that normal procedures aren't going to fix the machine; what if the problem(s) persist for months, or a machine is completely offline for weeks at a time? What about pre-existing conditions from before the warranty expires? Do you cover those at "no charge", even if the warranty lapses while your people are trying to figure out the problems, or do you charge the client for the repairs, parts, etc?
These are all VERY important questions to ask, if you plan on buying one of these machines, and I would be very interested in hearing what an official Kornit rep would say to these things. And yes, these are all very serious questions, which I hope to receive an answer to.
