Default JPSS or Jet Opaque on a Sand color shirt... which might work better?

Anyone know if JPSS worls on a Gildan Sand colored shirt or should Jet Opaque for darks be used? I just didn't want to waste a shirt for a sample if someone already knows from experience.

Thanks!!

Hi Jess,

Honestly, alot of that answer depends on the colors in the design, and how deep the sand color of the shirt is. If the colors in the design are strong, and much deeper than the sand, it could work because the colors in the design may be strong enough to resist the shirt color.

Have you gone ahead and tried it out?

Jess, this would be a trade off...you will lose some vibrancy, and the clear film will be more apparent with the JPSS. But you will have to deal with the white backing, and a heavier hand with the opaque. However, the colors will be brighter with the opaque. Like Kelly says, a lot depends on the colors of the print.

I should probably go with the opaque then because the design is a bulldozer and an excavator (yellow). I'll try both though to see. Thanks

I'd use the Jet Opaque for the sample. Can you contour cut the opaque paper with a vinyl cutter? Less surface for hand (feel ).

I tried the JPSS and to my surprise it looks great on sand! No polymer ring either. I'll post pictures when the shirts are done. Customer ordered ash, white and sand so you'll be able to see that the vibrancy is still there. It's a good thing for me the JPSS worked as the design is a little complicated and contour cutting would have made it look better, but not the way I wanted.

Hi Jess,

Thanks for the update on the sand shirts. Have you tried the JPSS with the ash yet? Ash seems to be the hardest one to hide the polymer coating, at least, one of the noted more difficult color shirts that gets posted about anyway.

Just a heads up if you haven't done the ash shirt yet, and if you already have, and your post above means the ash, too, great to hear it worked out great for you.

Glad it worked out. I've wasted to many shirts on experimentation. Mike

I've used JPSS on ash several times without a problem with a polymer ring. I just cut as close to the image as possible. The only thing that's noticable with the ash is that the darker grey hues in the shirt show through when I apply JPSS that has light colored ink on it.

I'll post the pictures tomorrow. I just finished the job today!!

I see ink transfers on ash shirts around town on a regular basis. I know people are doing them and feeling good enough to sell them but they scream out "CHEAP" when I see them unless they are trimmed close and they don't have any inner areas that can't be trimmed. I have tried a few myself and there is just no way I would even give one away. I contour cut my designs with a plotter now and that is the only way I would touch a Ash tee. I purchased the CraftRobo Pro just for contour cutting and it works great. I was hesitant but it has made a big difference. Now I can do designs on dark shirts with heat transfer vinyl.

Here's the pics as promised. Hard to get good pictures up close.

The design in my ash shirts has inner areas that can't be trimmed and they came out fine. I don't think they scream cheap at all. They look exactly like the white shirts I did. I can't see the polymer anywhere!

I agree, Jess, they look great. Thanks for sharing the pics.... One more Q, what blank tee is that ash? It really looks good.

Thanks! It's a Gildan 5000, but I've used Gildan 2000 with the same results.
