Won't bore you with the details, customer had someone else back out of a job at the last moment and I'm trying to get it done via transfers.
I have 130 shirts due by the weekend, have all of them printed and shirts are ready to go, but I can't get the transfer to peel from the backing paper. This has happened before and I thought that printing and letting them outgas for several days before masking and peeling would alleviate the problem. It has not.
What can I do to salvage the decals so I'm not stuck holding a bag of useless transfers and a bill to restock 130 shirts? Photo attached is what I've gotten to peel, but can't get the rest of it off. Here's the specs:
Roland xc540, using Roland's EcoSolv inks
100º for heat on the machine, just enough to get the ink to dry as it comes out of machine
Siser colorprint CLASSIC 29"X5yds, 5 rolls used, every one same issue. Job was printed on Saturday and finished on Sunday.
I "think" its because the ink still hasn't finished outgassing, but I have absolutely no clue as to why this is happening. It weeded just fine with no issues whatsoever, and cuts were perfect as i can get the backing paper off just fine where the cut is, but can't get through the whole print. Seems to come off a bit better if I quickly rip the backing paper away, but still doesn't get all the material off.
PLEASE HELP ME!!!!
Chris

Re: HELP!!! Backing paper won't come off---AGAIN!!!
Well, its been an interesting day, that's for sure!!!
I read that post a few months ago when I first had this problem with the backing paper, but nobody really had an answer to Chopper's problem.
However, I've narrowed the problem down but still have no solution other than wait! In desperation, I've tried to find a way to quickly dry the transfers by putting them in my suv with the windows up on a hot summer's day! It seems that the masked transfers I stuck in there for a few hours came off the backing paper with less hesitation and no backing paper stuck to the transfer. This tells me that even after 4 days of drying in a non-air conditioned shop and an average of 80+ degrees is still not enough to allow the ink to outgas. My vehicle has a definite solvent ink smell to it, so it must be allowing the solvent to evaporate properly.
In the meantime, I've been pulling the transfers off the backing paper without mask at all and that seems to be working okay, but its a very slow, painstaking process (especially at 128 shirts with front crests!). Seems if I pull at the right angle, the transfer stretches slightly and releases from the backing paper without it shredding and sticking to the backside of the transfer, but its definitely not the right way to do it. I'm lucky that the print is in a perfect circle and there are no extra pieces to the layout! This would be impossible with a contour-cut design, that's for sure.
I've also decided to give up completely on print/cut transfers and will only offer basic solid color-cut apparel, I'll job the rest out to someone with a laser transfer setup or silkscreen for the easier 1 and 2 color jobs. It sucks, but I have to realize that I just can't do everything myself and need to leave some things up to those who can do a better job.
I'll try to post an update when the material dries a few more days, but I suspect that it pulls off perfectly by Monday! I've printed enough extras to test this theory every day for the next week! And if anyone else has found a definite solution to this problem, I'd love to hear about it! I'm sure I can't be the only one or two people who have had this issue and this site is a great place to resolve issues such as this!
