I used to use booz-e heat transfers for my dark colors, but had the problem of ink washing off the transfer in the wash. I have now changed to coastal to try their product, I folly the instructions and heat to the correct temp but still the ink seems to come off in the wash. some of the transfers it is just spoty where it comes off some it fades so bad that after two or three washes there is no color left at all. Can anyone offer any suggestions on what may be causing this?

I'm not a fan of heat transfers to begin with, but it sounds like it should be lasting longer then that. Either the ink in your tansfer is bad or the heat press is not at the correct temp.
do some test transfers at different time lengths and pressures. Try tripling the time and increasing the pressure to get the transfer down into the fabric. If that works b etter. Then you know you need more. If not, then your temp setting guage is outta whack and set it for higher and higher temps until you get a transfer that passes multiple wash tests. Eventually work your way to the optimal settings for your transfer machine. Make sure you ordered the right kind of transfer for the matierial you are going onto as well. Test, test, test before doing production runs even if you have to totally sacfrifice one of the garments all over to the test Gods. It costs you less than redoing the entire job all over again
Thanks printingcharms, I will try a higher and lower heat temp setting to see if it helps. I thought that the heat setting that the instructions called for 350 was low and it may have been. I can use new ink in the printer I even used a different brand of printer and still the same problem.

Is it possible that the washing method could be causing it? I think they are supposed to be washed in water that is not real hot, turned inside out and not left in the machine after they are finished. Also your not supposed to use and bleach.
The washing is being done just as you suggest but still the same. I just installed a new thermostat in my press. I will do more testing and keeping notes till I find what will work. Thanks. Pat
Hi
Check your ink. If you are using dye or water soluble ink it will fade or wash out (sounds like you are using Dye based since it is blotching in some areas.
You really must use a pigmented ink for transfers. I am sure of this since I supplied Boo-z with their paper.
