Re: Dark and Light transfers? Transfers for darks have a white background that is printed on. You then apply your printed design, along with the rectangle white box to your garment.
If you don't want some or all of the white to show, you must cut it our before you press it to your shirt.
Transfers for light don't have this white layer. Therefore, there is no way to get the color white on a light transfer. The glossy finish you saw was polymer from the transfer. To get rid of this polymer, you also have to cut around your image before you apply it to your shirt.
That's a quick answer. There are a TON of discussions on light and dark transfers in the heat transfer section of the forum. Take a hour, read through and you'll know as much as anyone else does about them.
