Default storing transfer paper

Hi Everyone,

How do you store transfer paper? I'm mainly talking about storage for more than a few weeks.

I keep mine in the original plastic bag, but I don't use it up very fast. Should I put it in a storage box with moisture remover crystals?

Thanks,

Paintergirl

I have just always kept mine in a cool dry place. I buy in bulk so sometimes my paper sit for many months.
Never had a problem with it when I go to use it.

I also keep mine in the original zip locks and zip 'em up. No issues for me yet. I do try to keep the heaviest package on top. Sometimes it seems my Ironall Dark wants to curl up if nothing heavier is on top.

Has anyone ever used any of those moisture absorbing products with their papers? The room I print in is probably the dampest area of the house other than the bathroom, and I press in the garage without any ac running. I saw some of the crystal type products at Wally's World yesterday and wondered if it wouldn't be better to store the papers in a plastic tote with some of the crystals. Anyone tried that?

I have not, but if you do, think about trying it with a small sample of paper. My concern would be that the tape/crystals would dry the paper out too much, and make the polymer flaky. You know? It might go too far, it might work out perfect. If it's only a few sheets to experiment, it wouldn't be that big of a deal if they do dry out too much. Are you able to just keep your paper supply in the house somewhere and take it to the press when it's time to transfer?

It's always in the house except when I do the pressing. But we have an occasional mold problem in the extra bedroom, where my printers are, especially in the winter. There's just no other place to work, since our house is so tiny.

I'll give your idea a try and see how it works. I'll post the results.

Thanks,

Paintergirl

Is it important to keep the papers in a dark area, like photo paper? I have not seen any discussion of this.

Not that I know of. I just keep mine in sealed plastic bags, that's it. I have no problems. I suppose direct sunlight thru a window could pose a problem, since it will apply heat by the mere fact it's in the direct sunlight, but on a shelf out of direct light, I have no problems with mine. Hope this helps.
