Default What inkjet paper for darks has softest hand?

Hi,
I'm new here and have been doing a LOT of reading but seem to get farther and farther away from making a decision about which paper to buy the more I read lol... I know to get the JPSS for lights; I'm using 100% cotton and 50/50 shirts. Anyone? Many thanks!!

Hi Barbara,

For darks, I like Ironall Dark and as far as I know, Ironall Dark still seems to hold it's reputation for the "softest" hand. Here is a list of the other names Ironall Dark is being sold under:

Thanks so much Kelley for info; now it makes MUCH more sense to me why exactly I was confused. Do they have so many different names because of the "bad batch" thing? Again thank you for your many helpful posts -- I have so many notes in files on my hard drive! Someday I look forward to actually printing after I get this "amassing the right stuff" thing done...

No, paropy is not Ironall (an IYA product).

Ashamutt does a good job of listing what dark papers are what in this thread:

No, they had the various names prior to the bad batch.

This paper apparently doesn't have an actual name from the supplier, so New Milford Photo coined the term Ironall/Ironall Dark for their purposes. Other suppliers coined their own names as well.

Since the paper was widely tested, and subsequently discussed on the forum, under the Ironall name, that's just what kind of "stuck".

Sort of like most of the time, gelatin is just called Jello. NMP was just the lucky ones to get their name made popular.

IYA is the manufacturer of the paper. =)

I kinda like that paper...why isn't there such a discussion about it, as with the other opaque paper?

IMHO...it seems just a tad softer than Iron All...and not as heavy on shirt. But thats a good idea..get samples of both and decide...as its been stated most folks here prefer the Ironall.

...as of right now, I really like IYA Dark!
Otherwise known as "Ironall dark", "Everlast dark", "Clearsoft dark"...and the list goes on and on ...LOL

I still need to compare it side by side with JOTO's Paropy Dark.
The reason that I have not done so is because I just received my batch of IYA Dark(ironall dark) after waiting for almost a year for the manufacturer to "get it right".
This time last year(FEB '08) I had a "bad batch" of IYA Dark(ironall dark) and absolutely hated it!
...but now.....I love it!!!!!!
Soft and stretchy....color holds up.......but please keep in mind that the black shirt has only been washed a few times.
Still need to keep washing it to see how it "really" holds up!

NOTE: Soon, I will be conducting "cutter/plotter" tests with this IYA dark (ironall dark) paper....and will also test to see how to get it to run more smoothly through the printer!!! LOL

Wondering if there is an update to the NEW batch of IYA dark paper???

If the IYA dark is still not consistent what is everyone using in place of it currently?

I purchased my "ironall dark" from tshirtsupplies.com

I do believe that they have named it "JetWear IYA" dark & light .

(IYA Technologies manufactures this paper... IYATECH TECHNOLOGIES )

In MY testing so far.....

IYA dark (a.k.a... ironall dark) it works great!

Color holds great!
Stretch is great!
Soft feel!!
(this feels so much better than JetOpaque!!!!!!!!!!!)
....for a list of opaque papers & names that they go by please see Dark OPAQUE Inkjet Heat Transfer Papers Names - and the "other" names they are sold under. (pls help add to this list) )

NO cracking what so ever....even when I really stretched it!!

*I pressed a full color photograph.

*A.S. TEES t-shirt: women's #3052 black Women's Classic V-Neck | A.S. Tees

*Washed in warm water w/ Tide HE.
(with small amount of fabric softener on the second wash just to see what would happen)

*Medium warm dryer.

.....so far, so good!(great)

.....now I need to "test" the JOTO opaque paper.
