Default Heat Transfer Fading

I have the post with the siser Color Print II material that is cracking & peeling. I gave our customer, with the failing shirts, a Test shirt with Color Print Premium on one side & Classic on the other to see if one of the materials would seem to work better. After 15 washes they seem to be laying down good. The material is not cracking but the colors of the image has faded drastically. Also on some of the other shirts where they are cracking the colors of the image has changed, they have faded al little but are more turning a tanish color. I was wondering if anyone new if using 3rd party inks could cause the fading. We have a Roland Versacamm SP540V. We are using Sol max inks from Fellers not the Roland inks. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey michelle I use the versacamm 540 with the roland eco max int I print on thermoflex when we first started we had a problem. We found out our pressure was set wrong now we printed a shirt and washed and dried it about 120 times and It looks almost new. try using more presure. Press let cool then with the teflon repress for about 10 sec. hope this helps.

who sells this thermoflex material? Did you wash the shirt inside out? Did you just dry it in a dryer on normal settings? Thanks

May I ask what you give as washing instructions. Also have you had anyone wash them with color safe bleach or detergent with a bleach alternative?

Cool Re: Heat Transfer Fading

I just put must be washed inside out and dried on perm press as far as bleach or detergant I used what my wife has and it has some type of bleach like substance in it. so far I have not had any problems as of yet. You just have to test test test for some reason some people get different results with the same meterals it is very importaint to make sure your presure is good I like to see the meteral pattern on my transfers.

We might have to try that. We give out instructions on paper, but them can get lost or not read. I am posting some pictures I took of the failing shirts. I am really embarrased to post these, as our work is not like this at all, but I think some of you might have a better idea as to what might be causing this if you see what is actually happening. We are going to be in the process of redoing the shirts for our customer so I want to nail down the possible problem before hand. We are fairly new to doing T-shirts so any help or advice is greatly appreciated. My hope is someone has come across this problem & can tell me if I might have done something wrong? I did follow the directions of the material, dry time, pre press, press time & temp, etc.

The first image is of the front logo, they started doing this only a few months later. You can see the image is peeling off.

The second image is of the back of the shirt. The image looks to have adhered good but it cracking very badly & flaking off, also the color has a brownish/tanish tint to it.

The 3rd image is what the image is supposed to look like.

The 4th image is of a test shirt we gave our customer with the ColorPrint Premium (which is the pic) & the Classic on the other side. This has been washed only 15 times. It looks to be adhered well but has faded & looks as if it was getting ready to start cracking.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. hope attachments are on here. I'm new at this!

My guess is the 3rd party ink is causing some issues - I've only printed with eco-sol max from roland and have heard success stories as well from the Mimaki inks and the Mutoh standard inks. The cracking and peeling is a different issue altogether, but the color fading should not be happening to you. You may ask fellers if they have done any testing on apparel applications witht heir inks.

The peeling could be either time, temperature or pressure issues, if not than a bad roll/lot.

I really think it 2 things 1st the inks and second your transfer vinyl I only use the thermoflex I tried the so called best and nothing but greef, the thermoflex holds the color and last forever. Plus the 3rd party inks are never a good idea I have never used any other ink and if they said they would give it to me free I would not use it. I have tried every way to reinvent the wheel in my 32 years in the sign/printing/vinyl business some things worked some not so much now in my old age I use all things from vinyl to printing and air brushing Im really not that smart but I do make a living the best advice I can give you is try new way but DO NOT CHEAPEN UP YOUR PRODUCT it will come back to bite you in the butt..... and remember prepress then transfur then peel and then use teflon or baking paper make sure you can see the meteral pattern and you will be good to go. I hope this helps.

The thermaflex you are printing to is that the regular t-shirt cut vinyl and your printing to it? Or is this something else?
Thanks,

I use 2X4 shipping labels. The stickey kind. Print the wash instructions on them and stick them on the shoulder of the shirts. This has worked real well for us for a long time. Don't get lost.

How do you print and press Thermoflex. Do you peel it off carrier, print on it and then press? The exposed side of Thermoflex is the adhessive side. Are you printing on the adhessive side? I am confused.
