uneven heat from your heat press. try getting an infra red tem gun to check it with or some tempature sensative strips and spred them around on the heat press to see where the cold spots are.

Thats possible but I believe you also have a heat distribution problem because you said part of the transfer worked while part didn't. Did you get a temperature to use from your transfer paper dealer? The literature I got said to use 390 degrees American measurements for 30 seconds with a firm pressure.

Well, that is a good question. I let mine dry to a light touch. IOW if I drag my finger lightly across it, nothing is on my finger. It will also look dry. I don't heat up my press till I'm ready to print and by the time my press heats up, its dry every time.

Here are some tips in a post on heat pressing step by step. Maybe if you check this out, there might be something you can add to your process to help the transfer adhere properly.
transfer paper tips for lasting image - Page 5 - T-Shirt Forums

Good advice to up the heat. It's not an exact science, and if turning up the heat improved your finished result, then that's a good thing. =)

A successful press needs three things: time, temp and pressure. Double check that your pressure is high enough. Try increasing it some, if that helps, then you are moving in the right direction again.

If you aren't already, don't forget to pre-press the moisture out of the shirt before you start.

When we use JPSS we go 40 seconds. @375F We also noticed that if you peel the transfer off of the backing paper and then lay it down and press it, the transfer results are greatly improved. They wash better and last way longer. The only downfall is that the transfer wants to curl up , cause there is no backing paper on it. We have a tester that we printed and washed over 50 times now. Still like new. We have a rester on the same shirt , in which we left the backing paper on and then peeled after pressing. Not like new, very worn. We also found thatJPSS is good for smaller breast prints, but the larger the print, the more puckering you get cause of its stretchyness.
