Default Problems with Finding Correct Heat Press Setting

Hello All,

I am new to the heat press business and recently purchased a Sunie 16x24 heat press. It seems to work great so far. The problem I am having is finding the correct setting to get a great quality transfer using the JPSS.

I purchased the transfer paper from Coastal Business Supplies Inc. The instructions say 350-375 degrees with firm pressure for 20-30 seconds. I have tried a number of different settings, but either too much ink comes off or some of the shirt fibers come up when I pull the transfer paper off. I have read a number of posts with people using different temperatures, time, and firmness.

Maybe I am using too much pressure? I have not tried adjusting the firmness to medium. I have tried increasing the temperature to 390 for 30 seconds like someone else mentioned in another post, but that did not give me a great quality print either.

I am using a teflon sheet to cover the transfer. Not sure if this is making a difference or not.

Any suggestions???

I too am new to making printed designs. I just made two shirts with this paper for the first time about two hours ago. I was very impressed with how they came out. I also ordered my paper from Coastal. I am using a Hix Swingman 15x15. I used my HP C7280 (pigment based ink) print quality set to normal for these test shirts. Put one on Gray and one on White. Both shirts 100% cotton. I had my heat set at about 360 with med pressure. I pressed for 25 sec using a teflon sheet, peel hot and streched as suggested. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply, Greg. I am using an HP OfficeJet J3680 using a normal print setting also. The image looks great on the transfer paper, but I am having a problem transfering the image to the shirt with high quality. Sounds like I may have to adjust my pressure to medium.
