Default I am totally confused about CISS.

(I just realized I posted this in the wrong section. I'm sorry!)

Hi everyone. I'm really new to this. I'm sorry if these questions have been asked a million times but many of the answers are being explained with terms that I am not yet familiar with. I need an explanation in layman's terms, if possible.

I just ordered an Epson c120 printer (am planning to upgrade once I save up some more money), and I am completely lost about CISS systems. I want to be able to use pigment inks so what would work with this printer? I can't seem to find a lot of information about them.

Also I am completely confused about printing on black t-shirts. More than a few my t-shirts will have texts that need to be printed in white. From what I've read this is either impossible, or I just don't understand the answer people are giving about adjusting settings.

Any advice would really be appreciated. Thank you.

The C120 is a pigment ink printer, so any CIS you purchase should accommodate pigment ink.

Transfer paper for dark garments have a white background. Generally you print your ink directly on this white background and then press on your shirt.

One way to achieve white letters is to make them with an ink surrounding (your ink would surround the white transfer in the shape of letters. The resulting exposed white transfer would be your letters). Another way is to use a cutter with an optical eye to cut the transfer. However this method is difficult/impossible on stand-alone white letters.

Is that any less confusing?

That helps a lot! Thank you so much.

I was confused about the c120 and I freaked out because I was under the assumptions that it was NOT a pigment printer and realized the C88 is and was kicking myself for not buying that instead. If the c120 is a pgiment printer can I not initially buy the CISS right away if I won't be doing that much printing?

The C120 is a newer model of the C88. They are both good, pigment ink printers. I believe they basically have the same specs (ppm, page sizes, etc.0)

Are you referring to clogging issues for infrequent use of the machine? If so, hopefully someone who has this set up can chime in. I am not sure. perhaps you should just use the cartridges the printers comes with before using your CIS.

I'm told CIS systems are not a good choice for the infrequent use of a printer. You could look into refillable cartridges instead.

Be careful of the any off brands for your C120 ... we recently had to trash one after using an aftermarket brand of cartridge. It clogged our machine and no amount of head cleanings etc resulted in a solution.

Thanks so much for your responses. I got my printer today and it came with pigment ink! For some reason I was convinced that it was a dye ink printer. I'm so relieved. I'm one step close to opening for business.
