Question faulty inkjet press paper

Just in case it is me! I purchased 5 -12pks. of HP iron-on inkjet transfers on line. I printed them out but when I tried to press them on the shirts the it would not completely transfer. The paper was sticky as I tried to remove it and some of the design was still on the transfer. Please let me know if I am doing something wrong or I purchased faulty paper and need to request a refund. I had to go out and purchase more paper as I had an order for 25 shirts with 2 transfers each. Does it matter is the pack says iron-on? I was under the impression that you can use a heat press for any custom transfer. Thanks in advance for your advice and/or response.

You can use a heat press with papers that say to use an iron, a heat press is only and oversized more efficient iron.

The key to a good press it time, temp and pressure. Try to steps in this link to see if there is something you can tweak about your process. Personally, I would not use the papers you are using. I would try JPSS/Jetpro sofstretch if I was you. I can be cheaper than buying Avery paper at Walmart.

Here are some tips on pressing. Something in here may help you out... if all else fails, up your pressure, and possibly your heat and dwell time by a few degrees and seconds... please read the link first to see if there is something obvious that you can try right away...

i ran into the same problem when i first started with no knowledge of the papers out there, i had bought the avery brand similar to the hp brand you have. although the paper isnt complete junk i would have to agree with girlzndollz... jpss is the holy grail of papers. dont be disappointed tho with your purchase, i found the "walmart brand" to be very handy for small projects that dont require a lot a flex and stretch. according to your description just up the press time and pressure.. atleast thats what i did when i ran into that problem. also i noticed with those papers that if it says its a hot peel dont peel right away, get it before its too cold tho. it takes some experimenting. i noticed when i peeled the avery paper immediately it stuck to the paper backing a little. also to lock it into the tshirt better press a second time wit some parchment paper but only for several seconds. i hope this helps. good luck!

Diane,
Just curious what type of printer do you have and what type of inks are you using?

I am asking this because I had a similar problem many years ago. I was using an HP printer trying to print transfers and the results were not good as the inks were not pigment inks.

Thrasherdoo,
believe it or not but Wal-mart actually carries an Avery soft stretch transfer paper. I was tempted to buy it but the price was like $8 for 5 sheets so I passed. I mainly wanted to see what the quality would be.

What kind of printer are you using? Are you using the OEM inks?

Okay. You use the Claria. Claria is fine for most (almost all) people who try it. Nothing wrong with it according to most folks. the 1400 is also nice for the large format printing. Quite a few folks use the 1400 with Claria, and are happy.

Some folks, on the other hand, won't touch durabrite due to color shifting under the heat of the press... so, some opinion of what you *shoud* be using goes to one's own personal experiences, good and bad, with different inks.

I have this printer, too. I wonder if you go into printer preferrences, can you adjust the yellow a little, or the black (contrast/bright) to get a little different look.

If you had 3rd party ink, I would have suggested you call the ink supplier, or ask someone here, for an ICC profile for your ink. Like, inkjetfly.com has a 3rd party pigment ink for the 1400, and they came up with a unique special color profile just to be used with JPSS.

If the yellow being off ever really gets to you, that ink might be something you would be interested in. There's a thread on here called (?) "inkjetfly 1400 pigment" -- I believe that search will bring the thread around. It's by Ivancuriel, and he tried a few suppliers and their various inks. He does a good job comparing (for the 1400) the inks, and supplies pics.

Good luck to you whichever way you go. =)
