Hi Bruce,
I'm not totally sure I understand your question, but I'll give it a try.
There are some professional transfer papers that can be used with a heat press *or* an iron. Two examples are two of the favored papers on the forum: Jetpro Sofstretch/
JPSS and Ironall.
Some professional papers cannot be used with an iron. The mfg doesn't include instructions for them, as they feel a heat press provides the best results for their paper.
I have successfully hand ironed heat transfer papers, but it is backbreaking and time consuming. But, I earned enough to buy my press outright, and I never had one shirt fail. Even still, the day I placed my order for my heat press was like a dream, and when it arrived, life became much, much easier. =)
I also have used paper from Walmart, the Avery paper. I used that paper with an iron, and then a heat press. Once I joined here, and learned about the pro papers, I stopped using Avery, as it was inferior to the products I learned about here. My personal fav paper is
JPSS for lights.
I hope this information helps get you closer to what you were looking for, if not, ask away! We'll give it another go. =)
