Default Light/dark transfers versus vinyl transfers

Hello all,
I am appealing to all of you that have more experience than me.
I would like to weigh the pros and cons between light and dark transfers with good quality paper (JPSS, Ironall for darks), versus vinyl transfers.
I have a fairly simple 3 color design appx 10" x 12", and I am looking for the highest quality image I can produce myself on a t-shirt. I think the transfer paper method would be easiest, but not sure about durability.
I have a 24" contour cutter, Epson 1400 printer w/ pigment ink system, and heat press.
Can anybody tell me the pros and cons for each method?
Durability through wash cycles, costs, etc?
I'm sure a lot of you have tried both processes, your opinions would be greatly appreciated.

IMHO vinyl is much better quality! I use JPSS and vinyl. Vinyl will last much longer, can be used on any color shirt and not fade. I have never found a dark transfer paper that I liked. JPSS is limited to white and in some cases could be used on light pink, light yellow or light gray/ash.

Depending on your design (how much weeding) and qty needed 3 color vinyl could be a lot of work. Have you checked into plastisol transfers?

I agree with Chip..Vinyl will outlast the garment and will work on any color..if doing three colors, you need thin vinyl..like thermflex and a design that lends itself to good registration...with your cutter you should have a little over lap to cover this..

as to transfers to dark...I just do not do them..and if they insist and it is small order, I outsource to dtg...or large order outsource to screen printer

I tried a few papers from Coastal and was not impressed. Every dark transfer paper I have seen and or printed is just a "sticker" type product that will not last long. I would be embarresed to sell it.

I have not tried Paraopy. I believe Coastal sells it. They may send or sell a few sheets for you to try.

Funny, read quite a few posts saying Ironall dark was good. Haven't been able to try it yet, but I will get some Paraopy.

I looked at Coastal and could not find Paraopy, could it be misspelled? No results on on google also.

vinyl is the way to go, especially if it is a small number of shirts. make sure your design has clean lines for cutting.

Thanks for the info Colorfast. The link is for Laser transfer paper, has anyone tried the Paropy opaque paper for inkjet transfers?

I'm also new (and apparently 2 weeks late) but I have high detailed & brightly colored comicbook characters & fans really like the darker shirts. You would agree that printable vinyl is the way to go for darks & jpss for whites? If so, what type of vinyl & where do I get it from?

By printable vinyl do you mean Plastisol transfers? I have not tried Plastisol yet. Still hoping a good transfer paper comes out for darks.
Some dark transfer paper almost looks like a thin printable vinyl after you remove the backing paper.
Right now am waiting to hear test results for 3G jet Opaque and Roland transfer paper.
