Default whats the significance of having teflon sheets for heat press machine

i just purchased a 16x20 heat press from sunie and now im wondering should i get a few teflon sheets, but truthfully i dont even know what there used for? also im hearing a lot about baking parchment paper. is it as simple as going to the neiborhood grocery store and purchasing renolds baking paper? and while we're at it, are there any other items i should consider to purchase with my new heat press???

The teflon sheet is to protect the upper platen from any ink or the transfer sticking to it. The inks can transfer to the next garment you press. It can be a pain to clean off the upper platen if allowed to dry on it.
You may need a teesquare-it to accurately center the transfer on a garment, a cutter or Xacto knife to trim the edges of the transfer, a lint brush for the garment to use before pressing, parchment paper for opaque transfers. If I can remember anythng else, I wil add.

I don't use the Teflon sheet the only time I cover the transfer is when I do the second press and theat is with parchment paper.

Without a Teflon sheet covering your work, when using heat transfer paper for white shirts, you will get a slow, gradual stain/gunk build-up on your platen.

The best benefit is if you start one day, without having enough coffee, or your young child decides to be helpful...and puts the transfer on, upside down.

Heat platens can be cleaned but it is about as much fun as a root canal.

I personally don't use Teflon sheets very much. With dye-sublimation, on some occasions you can get what I call "barrier ghosting". That is when vapors from the shirt and/or transfer are trying to escape or become captured and the vapors just float around ghosting your product or causing vapor streaks.

I prefer brown bag void fill (comes in rolls) Great for absorbing residual moisture not removed in prepress.

Be careful not to grab coated butcher paper if you go that route..the results are not pretty.

Abdul. We do not recommend using a teflon sheet for a couple of reasons. The transfer might move without you being aware of it and result in a crooked print. Also, the teflon can absorb some of the heat and cause the transfer not to peel correctly. The teflon (or baking paper) is useful for the application of die cut letters where there might be some 'bleeding' around the edges and cause ink to get on the heating element. This 'bleed' could appear on the next shirt that you print. If the heat platen gets dirty over a period of time it is easy to claen with a dry cloth or EZ Off.

A Teflon sheet is to keep the vinyl transfer hotter and if you lay it down right it will not move the transfer!!!!!

Teflon sheets are used for the same thing as parchment, and that is to protect your platen The differences for me are that when using teflon it will give a more shiny finish, and with parchment it will give a more matte finish. I use the parchment as I do not care for the shiny of the teflon. Also for me, it seems the heat is more equally distributed with the parchment as it is not as thick as the teflon. A great place to get parchment paper, the correct kind is here Exopap Silicone Double Face Baking Paper. Each sheet can usually be used several times and this place has a great deal on the 500 sheet box. Plus these are the larger size needed for a larger heat press. Hope this helps

Many of them have coatings. Coatings which can melt at high temps.

You can use the reynolds parchment but its not really cheap if you compare the price for the amount of paper. Its much cheaper in the long run buying the bulk paper. I am not sure if the reynolds is the same, but the one I linked to works really well. I would imagine it would work fine though
